Business Overview: Prudential Investment Management (PIM) is one of the largest investment managers in the U.S. with $637 billion of assets under management. Prudential Fixed Income (PFI) is the largest asset management group within PIM, managing assets of over $330 billion, which include government, mortgage, and asset-backed securities, municipal bonds, corporate and high yield bonds, bank loans and emerging market debt. PIM manages investments for a wide variety of domestic and international clients, which include public and corporate pension funds, institutional and retail investors and Prudential's general account.
Description: The Senior High-Grade Analyst - Insurance Sector (Insurance Analyst) will be a member of an investment team that manages high-grade corporate bond portfolios for a wide range of institutional, retail and proprietary accounts. The Insurance Analyst will be assigned to cover life, health, disability and property casualty insurers as well as reinsurance and insurance brokerage companies. The analyst will work closely with the portfolio managers on the high-grade desk and particularly with the portfolio manager who covers the financial sector in developing recommendations on positioning individual credits and sectors within client portfolios. These recommendations will be the result of core fundamental analysis of the issuers together with a relative value assessment of risk-adjusted return opportunities within the insurance sectors. The role will involve regular direct interaction with Wall Street, rating agency analysts, and the management of issuing companies.
Responsibilities:
- Building and maintaining earnings models.
- Tracking corporate results.
- Interviewing company managers about business and financial strategies.
- Documenting research.
- Interacting with Wall Street on the latest securities offerings.
- Keeping management of the credit research group aware of all significant risk positions and changes in recommendations.
- Monitoring opportunities through daily meetings with portfolio managers.
- Making investment recommendations.
Skills
Requirements and Skills:
- Eight or more years experience analyzing insurance and financial companies from a credit or equity point of view.
- Demonstrated successful track record of making investment recommendations.
- Strong fundamental analysis and modeling skills.
- Excellent communications skills and ability to write clearly and concisely.
- Ability to work independently in a fast paced environment.
- Bachelors degree required; MBA or CFA preferred.
