MARS is seeking a VP, Talent Development to be located at MARS’ headquarters in Southfield, Michigan. This person will assume a senior position at the company and will report directly to the Chief Operating Officer. The VP, Talent Development will oversee the People Culture Department (HR) as well as the Life on MARS Committee, the agency’s cultural ideas epicenter. All HR functions, including hiring, benefits, employee relations, disciplinary measures and compensation structure, will be managed by the VP, Talent Development.
MARS is building a comprehensive training and development system for its new and existing employees. It is MARS’ intention to vastly deepen its commitment to these areas. Our goal is for our employees to receive a top-notch education and for MARS to be perceived as the unparalleled expert within the industry. Therefore, a large portion of this person’s responsibilities will include leading the strategy, design and implementation of all existing training, development and talent management initiatives of the agency. He/she will also oversee all company-wide measures of performance evaluation, talent assessment, succession planning and coaching.
Responsibilities:
- Development and implementation of overarching departmental strategy, including recruitment, training, benefits, employee relations, compensation structure, safety and health and wellness programs
- A primary responsibility will be on the development, sell-in and roll-out of a training curriculum focusing on shopper marketing fundamentals, strategic thinking and leadership skills
- Day-to-day management of a high-functioning People Culture team, including guidance and senior-level support
- Representation of PC department to the senior leadership team, including in business planning meetings and in company-wide events
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree is required. An advanced degree is strongly preferred
- Minimum of 10 years of proven track record as an HR and training/development leader; advertising or marketing agency experience a big plus
- Ability to provide HR leadership to all levels of the agency
- Self-starter, yet willing and able to work in collaboration with others
- Ability to lead by example, with topical experience in all HR functions
- Strong communication and listening skills

- Attention to detail, follow-through and sense of urgency
