WHO MAY BE CONSIDERED: All U.S. Citizens This position is located in the Division of Interpretation Recreation and Resource Management (IRRM ), with George Washington Memorial Parkway, Turkey Run Park . The George Washington Memorial Parkway (GWMP) preserves the natural scenery along the Potomac River. It connects the historic sites from Mount Vernon, where Washington lived, past the nation's capital, which he founded, and to the Great Falls of the Potomac where the President demonstrated his skill as an engineer. Developed as a memorial to George Washington, the Parkway may be used on any day to travel to exciting historical, natural, and recreational areas. The purpose of this position is to provide and disseminate information. Other duties may include, traffic control, radio dispatching, back country patrols, and visitor related services. Position requires standing for long periods of time, walking, bending, and lifting of moderately heavy items. Work is usually performed at Parkway Headquarters at Turkey Run Park. On occasion work may be performed in small outdoor structures with open windows which results in exposure to extreme of temperature, rain, snow, wind and direct sunlight. May be exposed to high levels of noise and emissions during heavy visitation periods. Work may be performed alone in isolated locations. Work includes conducting trail patrols on rock uneven surfaces. Specialized experience is experience that equips the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) or competencies to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the GS-04 grade level in the federal service. or/ 4 years of education above High School, (1 year is equivalent to 30 Semester or 45 quarter hours) or/ Must have successfully completed post High School Education/and specialized experience. Education must be accredited by an accrediting institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. Under the requirements of the Homeland Security Presidential Directive 12 (HSPD-12), all new Federal Employees must pass a background investigation. Failure to successfully meet these requirements will be grounds for termination. New employees of the Department of the Interior must identify a financial institution for direct deposit of net pay within 30 days of entrance on duty. NPS uniformed position. Employee will be required to wear a uniform and comply with National Park Service uniform standards. Applicants must possess and maintain a valid state driver's license or District of Columbia driver's license. This is not a drug tested position. Applicant must be able to work alternative work schedules, shift rotations, including night shift, holidays, and weekends. One year trial/probationary period may be required. Incumbent will be required to work outdoors, often under adverse conditions.
