Visual Specialist II
POSITION SUMMARY
As part of the Visual Merchandising Team, assist with the design, development, and implementation of all Staples in-store signing and customer-facing communications. Including but not limited to permanent, promotional, informational and institutional signing. Create sign solutions for existing, new, remodeled and relocated stores. Collaborate with internal business partners, field associates and 3rd party contractors to ensure cost-effective, timely execution of all sign deliverables
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Support the development, And Implement Sign Solutions Template Designs And Business Logic To Create In-Store Sign Output that Is Consistent With POS Pricing, Business Requirements, And Sales-Driving Initiatives
- Partner with IS to evaluate incoming sign requests relative to system ability, customer impact, and alignment with overall shelf level communication strategy
- Participate in cross-functional Discover/Define/Design meetings with IS, Store Operations, Pricing, Teamsite and other stakeholders to develop project requirements, Level-of-Effort analysis, and project plans as needed for all new signage enhancements required by the business
- Design new price/item sign templates to reflect current business requirements with focus on ease of understanding for in-store customer. Partner with Marketing, Creative, Pricing and Store Ops in the review of new shelf-level designs to ensure cross-functional alignment on design approach
- Create approved templates in Access Via, imbedding business logic within each template, frame, and layer to ensure correct output for every data requirement. Map all fields to data streams from Pricing, Spaceman, AS400, etc to ensure the right sign size, quantity, and content for each individual store as an outcome of normal business practice
- Partner with IS for detailed testing through all levels of IS environments (Test/Dev/QA/Production) to ensure all aspects of updates are performing to functional requirements prior to store rollout
- Facilitate communication among stakeholders to resolve any system performance issues
- Assist the Manager of Visual Merchandising with development and new store visual concepts that enhance the customer shopping experience and sales productivity
Establish, Maintain, and Document Shelf-Level Sign Posting Standards to Govern Signage Development, In-Store Presentation, and Business Logic
- Manage and support the creation, documentation, and maintenance of a governing strategy for shelf level signing that ensures industry-leading shelf-edge presentation that maximizes operational efficiencies, value and price perception, and positive, enhanced customer experience
- Create documented posting standards for price/item signage that are aligned with the logic and output rules of Sign Solutions to ensure the correct size and quantity of signs print in each individual store across the chain
- Provide clear and concise communication/education to stores and internal business partners regarding posting standards, system output, and processes for shelf-level signs
- Provide and maintain documentation for each business initiative to ensure easy access to information regarding system behavior and performance
- Provide templates and posting guidance to Promo, Marketing, and other business partners who send non-system signage to stores to ensure best customer facing presentation
- Attend Sign Review meetings weekly to assist with direction and guidance on shelf level requests
Provide Store-Facing Communication, Daily Support, and Troubleshooting for all Shelf-Level Sign Issues
- Oversee management of heat tickets within established service levels
- Facilitate coordination of key business partners (IS, Help Desk, Store Ops, Pricing) to resolve in-store sign issues
- Provide troubleshooting and ad-hoc analysis of Sign Solutions issues as needed to ensure no gap in store operations
- Provide internal business guidance and support to ensure that all signing is easily understood by customers, easy for stores to execute, and consistent with signage guidelines
Basic
- Bachelor Degree
- 2 - 3 years of retail experience required with relevant work experience in visual merchandising, in-store sign solutions and store operations
Preferred
- Prior Supervisory and Management skills, preferably in Visual Merchandising, Signing, or Marketing department of a major retailer.
- Experience in design of in-store signage preferred
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Proven leadership skills within a team environment
- Ability to manage timelines and demonstrate practical decision making
- Solid analytical skills and the ability to think strategically
- Organized proactive, self-motivated work style with proven ability to manage multiple projects and changing priorities in a fast paced environment.
- Direct experience with MacIntosh computer systems for use in development and production of signing and in-store communications
- Strong knowledge of business process documentation: timelines, data mapping and high level overview. Good working knowledge of the QA and UAT processes
- Ability to analyze data and develop recommendations for project requirements
- Ability to communicate business needs to cross-functional and IS project teams, both verbally and in written form
- Proficient with MS Access, Excel, PowerPoint and Word. Knowledge of Oracle and ability to understand and write sequel statements a plus
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a cross-functional work group
- Strong knowledge of Visual Merchandising, Signing, and Store Operations with focus on creating and maintaining an enhanced in-store retail customer experience
