This is an exciting opportunity within an organization with new roles and structure in a recently renovated facility. To ensure that we offer the highest standard of care in our programs, Perram House seeks a Volunteer Services Coordinator.
Perram House is a Residential Hospice providing end-of life-care in Toronto. Patient-centric palliative care is delivered to individuals who have a limited life expectancy. Care is provided by an interdisciplinary team of care professionals, all of whom specialize in palliative care. This program includes: nursing, personal support, psychosocial and spiritual care placing the resident in control of her or his life.
Position Name: Volunteer Coordinator
Reports to: the General Manager
Purposes: To interface with individuals who wish to volunteer their services in support of Perram
House, and the program which is delivered there.
Position Summary:
· To recruit, screen, train and support volunteers
· To coordinate, schedule and administer the delivery of the services of the volunteers
Specific Responsibilities
On boarding
· Recruit, screen, interview all volunteers
· Conduct required screening, including
o Reference checks and
o Toronto police Services checks
Education
· Conduct / coordinate training of all accepted volunteers
· Ensure that volunteers are made well aware of the policies and procedures in place at Perram House, especially those which apply directly to their assigned responsibilities
· Conduct regular assessments of volunteer performance
· Provide coaching, counselling and support to volunteers.
Administration
· Manage the work assignments and scheduling of volunteers
· Supervise volunteers in the execution of their assigned responsibilities.
· Maintain the files of volunteers
· Maintain volunteer lists and statistics – sharing quarterly reports to management
· Participate in staff meetings
Best Practices
· Liaise with other organizations including participation as a member of Hospice Managers of Volunteers ((HMV) which meets every other month to share best practices
· Conduct volunteer meetings, satisfaction surveys along with the continuous solicitation of input and learning’s from the volunteers in support of continuous improvement.
· Develop new and innovative ways to show appreciation for volunteers
