VP COO Compliance
The COO team provides proactive strategic, project management and operational support to the CIB Compliance Executive Committee (CExCo).
The EMEA COO has both global and regional responsibilities for the CIB Compliance department, often working in close coordination with the other regional COOs. The role covers a broad range of global and regional business management activities including:
- Managing a team of three, providing support and oversight where necessary, whilst ensuring that they meet the high standards expected by senior management
- Providing operational and ad-hoc support to the EMEA Head of Compliance and their Chief of Staff, in addition to the rest of the regional management team. This includes representation on the EMEA Compliance Management Team and participation in the weekly EMEA Management Meeting
- Creation of global and functional Management Information for the CExCo, Group Compliance and a variety of other Functions within the Firm, including the production of finance and headcount monthly packs for the Compliance Function’s stakeholders
- Overall global responsibility for the Compliance Function’s finances, both BAU and specific projects (global budget management, reporting and governance)
- Resource and Organisational Management, including overall responsibility for the global headcount budget, monitoring, reporting and approvals, in addition to responsibility for the preparation and maintenance of the EMEA organisational chart and collation of the global chart
- Local responsibility for operational matters including Business Continuity Management and Real Estate issues
The role will provide the holder an opportunity to work across all aspects of business management and to fully understand the operational dynamics, infrastructure business drivers of those Functions within the Firm.
Main Duties
The main duties and responsibilities of the EMEA COO role for CIB Compliance include:
- Perform the role of the Function’s Global Finance Director and provide the business interface with Finance across all regions to develop the Function’s budgets and forecasts. Monitor and escalate to Global COO / management, where appropriate, key variances / next steps
- Assistance with the management of global headcount / resourcing plans for the Function, tracking of headcount to targets/budgets and ensure maintenance of SAP HR
- Supervise the collation and preparation of Management Information for CExco, other internal and Group reporting purposes to provide updates on financials and headcount positions
- Foster a culture of continuous process improvement to ensure appropriate controls are undertaken with fewest resources so that maximum time can be spent providing business management support (i.e. greater added value activities) to the CExCo
- Involvement in ad-hoc projects undertaking various roles on an as needed basis.
Person Requirements
- Excellent 1st Degree that requires strong numerical / analytical skills or equivalent work experience
- Qualified accountant with project skills, possibly someone looking to broaden away from financial accounting to management accounting/business management
- Understands what are the key components to make change happen and has managed small projects
- Excellent understanding of finance and associated tools (Excel in particular) – happy to work to a detailed level when required whilst still maintaining a bigger picture view
- Prioritises and manages workload according to the needs of Manager and the nature of the activity / problem
- Self starter and manages with minimal direction
- Contributes to the development of controls by identifying areas of risk management to the business
- Takes ownership of problems/requirements and ensures they are resolved to meet objectives
- Confident, proactive and a keen learner with a genuine business interest, positive energy and real commitment
- Professional and presentable
- Able to produce high quality deliverables under pressure
