Established in 2007, the start-up company employs over 50 people and is a pioneer in the sector concerned with transforming solid biomass into electricity and heat. The company is headquartered in Hettenshausen (Pfaffenhofen a. d. Ilm outside of Munich) further facilities are located in Graz, Austria, and in Delaware, USA.
Agnion’s innovative allothermal gasification technology converts solid biomass feedstock into a high hydrogen and carbon monoxide-rich synthetic gas (syngas) with exceptionally high heating value. The syngas is ideally suited for combined heat and power applications and can be converted into liquids, hydrogen, and methanol di-methyl-ether and or substitute natural gas.
Agnion’s unique and simple Heatpipe-Reformer design provides a flexible, small-scale on-site gasification technology solution for relatively low capital cost. Typical customers for this technology are end-users looking for solutions to their high heating and electricity demands, such as schools/universities, warehouses/distribution centers, shopping malls, hotels and hospitals.
The company is financed by renowned venture capital investors like Kleiner Perkins Caufield Byers, Munich Venture Partners, Wellington Partners and Waste Management, the largest waste management company in the US.
Description of the Position: Unique opportunity to assist the CFO in establishing financial oversight and control in this fast growing company.
The immediate focus of the position is the implementation of appropriate (Project) Controlling, Actual vs. Budget-Analysis, Budgeting and long-range Business Planning processes.
In the mid-term the VP of Finance Corporate Controller will also get involved in LCOE-calculations, customer specific IRR calculations and project finance solutions.
The person must show a keen interest in the alternative energy industry, has outstanding modeling skills (“lives and breathes” Excel models) and a relentless work ethic.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
• Assists in the development and implementation of goals, policies, priorities, and procedures relating to financial management of the Company.
• Implementation of enterprise wide performance metrics to enable effective controlling processes and decision making.
• Assist in fine-tuning of project controlling.
• Supervises and participates in the preparation of various financial statements and reports. Detailed actual vs. budget analysis.
• Preparation of annual Budget, quarterly updates and sensitivity analysis.
• Directs internal audits involving review of accounting and administrative controls and implements appropriate risk management procedures.
• Participates in the evaluation of existing IT systems and develops procedures to improve existing systems.
• Participates in preparation of external audit materials and external financial reporting.
• Implementation of appropriate risk management system
• Assist and oversight about LCOE and customer specific IRR calculations
• Assist in evaluation of project financing, open or closed fund constructs or leasing solutions
Supervisory Responsibilities
Initially none. Potential to oversee accounting department down the road.
Education and/or Experience
Degree in Accounting or Finance from leading university and five or more years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Candidates with transaction due diligence, investment banking or enterprise valuation experience are preferred.
Language Skills
Prerequisite: Native German speaker, fluent in English. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence in both languages. Ability to speak effectively before groups of employees of organization.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Computer Skills
Excel expert! To perform this job successfully, an individual should ideally also have knowledge of standard Accounting software; MS Office Software.
