VP or Director – Capital Markets Credit Officer recruitment

Function

To analyze, assess, monitor and control financial risks associated with Global Financial Markets (GFM) activities and to report and advise on them in order to protect the Bank’s interests, revenue base and rating. The focus is primarily on Capital Markets and derivatives trading in the region, specifically with respect to the credit risks associated with these products and in line with the overall direction, targets and ambitions of Risk Management GFM.

This role will operate within a combined Credit and Market risk environment. 

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare or provide assistance in the preparation of credit applications for NBFIs, Clearing Houses and Structured Credit transactions. While the focus will be on counterparties in North America, a limited number of counterparties are based in Latin America.

• Review and evaluate complex/unusual transactions prior to trading even though an approved limit may exist. Responsible for ensuring that all risks are appropriately considered in relation to mitigants, economic environment and existing policy. Evaluation may require an in-depth knowledge of rating agency methodology, preparation of industry studies, alternative exit strategies in a capital markets environment as well as support from specific disciplines such as Tax and Legal where necessary. A heightened sense of urgency is required in a trading environment.

• Authorize or as required, escalate trade requests falling outside of approved parameters in line with credit and market risk policy. Provide assistance to GFM staff with regard to limit availability queries.

• Provide credit input into the Legal/Documentation process, implement the approved documentation policy, monitor covenants/triggers as required and where necessary, use experience and discretion to get best possible legal protection for Rabobank within the parameters approved during the credit process.

• Work with credit control staff to ensure that limit and documentation requirements are correctly reflected and to deal with any unresolved excess and limit violations.

• Maintain good professional working relationships with front office, risk management, legal and control staff, both locally and head office.

• Highlight any possible reputational or ethical issues to senior management.

• Prepare and assist in the preparation of regular and ad-hoc Management Information reports while working closely with market risk colleagues in order to provide comprehensive and useful Risk data; Reports could focus on current state, stress testing or client/ product/ sector risk mitigation strategies.

• Provide input to new Credit policies or amendments to existing policies

Background

• Experienced credit professional with minimum 5 year relevant experience gained in a bank/financial institution.

• Detailed knowledge and credit experience of capital markets, treasury products and the markets in which they are traded.

• Solid knowledge of capital markets and treasury documentation.

• Strong analytical skills with the ability to assess both quantitative and qualitative data.

• Strong interpersonal skills.

• Good communication skills (oral and written) across all seniority levels.

• Sound knowledge of credit exposure methodologies.

• Ability to multitask and manage priorities to deadlines.
