VP Performance & Capacity Engineer

 

Our client's Performance and Capacity Team reports into the CTO in the UK. The team is responsible for the delivery of cost effective capacity management to ensure an optimal performance of all business processes and services based on planned variations in demand. The team plays a crucial role to assist our client in achieving performance goals and plan budgets, while preventing the over provisioning of infrastructure. The organizational structure reflects the key role and importance of the team in the management of their wide technology stack. To strengthen the team to meet its mission statement, it has an open position for a Senior Performance and Capacity Engineer.

This role will be responsible for:
• Managing all performance engineering and capacity management activities to assist in delivering a robust and reliable global FX Settlement Service to the financial markets;
• Ensuring the proactive detection and management of performance or capacity issues and ensure they are resolved in a timely manner;
• Balancing business and service demand with available capacity and against IT cost;
• Analyzing all system behaviors and identify potential areas of concern regarding future stress/pinch points. Build an action plan for resolution;
• Assess any planned changes from projects, business or service demands for performance or capacity impact;
• Build strong partnerships with the client/vendors and raise the profile of the performance and capacity process;
• Propose and implement continuous improvement actions;
• Take a leadership role to closer align the Performance and Capacity Team with internal development and testing teams in New York;
• Push for delivery of performance and capacity actions to a timely manner.

We are seeking a degree educated professional who currently holds or has previously held a similar position. In-depth experience and knowledge in Performance and Capacity management within a business critical global Banking, Financial Services and/or Technology environment is essential. Service Management qualifications - ITIL is desirable. Technical knowledge of IBM infrastructure - P-series servers; AIX; DB2; MQ, SWIFT messaging - SWIFTNet and FIN; Microsoft Infrastructure - Blade Enclosures, SQL, Perfmon, Linux, and VMWare are required. XML messaging and associated XML standards (e.g. ISO20022), SAN Storage systems: EMC DMX and VMAX, IBM DS8000 series, and Networking Infrastructure - Core switching, WAN optimisers, VLAN's, Eye of the Storm, Cisco Routers Switches are desired. A good understanding of what drives IT cost and how to realise cost savings is required. Some travel to the UK may be required.
