Main Function
The main function of the position will be to provide, within Group Tax, support regarding the U.S. federal tax matters associated with structured transactions.
Main Duties
The main duties would include interacting and negotiating with, and responding to requests from, the IRS during their tax audits and representing Barclays during the IRS audits and IRS issue resolution processes in order to have the audits and issues resolved in the most efficient manner possible. Such duties would include providing support during the appeals process and providing support with respect to any potential tax litigation.
Additional duties of the position would include working closely with members of Group Tax, front office personnel, and outside counsel in order to assist: (i) in reviewing and evaluating structured transactions from a U.S. federal tax perspective, and (ii) in executing and monitoring the structured transactions. The assistance would include reviewing, understanding, and evaluating the structured transactions, evaluating tax advice received from outside counsel, and researching relevant tax issues. The assistance would also include coordinating cross-border tax issues with other Barclays' tax professionals located outside of the U.S.
Person Requirements
Basic Qualifications: Individual must have a Juris Doctorate.
Individual must have a minimum of 3 years experience as tax counsel with respect to capital markets transactions or structured finance transactions.Tax litigation and controversy experience Preferred Qualifciations: Individual has an LL.M. in Tax.
