Main purpose of Job:

To manage the storage of goods, loading and unloading from vehicles, use of forklift trucks for loading

Locating stock safely and securely within a warehouse environment and labelling and identifying freight accurately.

Process paperwork relating to freight and storage

To deal with complaints relating to the Warehouse or loading/unloading of goods.

To allocate work effectively and fairly to Warehouse Operatives and Forklift Truck Drivers providing instruction, guidance and support where required.

To supervise Warehouse Operatives and Forklift Truck Drivers undertaking work, monitor performance and address performance issues constructively, informing the Directorate where performance is unsatisfactory after training.

You are responsible for ensuring that employees are working in accordance with the Company Health Safety Policy and regulations, which includes assisting with the completion of risk assessments and health and safety audits.

Duties and Responsibilities:

You are expected to supervise and lead the operations of the warehouse ensuring correct systems of storage, loading, unloading and labelling are adhered to.

You are expected to liaise with Drivers regarding the loading of vehicles and work as a team to ensure maximum efficiency is achieved within the warehouse operation and in the delivery of freight.

Any complaints passed to you are expected to be resolved taking instruction from the Directorate as appropriate.

Any defect to forklift vehicles or equipment reported to you is your responsibility to ensure is repaired and/or made unavailable until rectified. Through communication with the workshop and garage ensure all scheduled maintenance is undertaken.

The Warehouse Supervisor must ensure they are fully conversant with Health Safety regulations applicable to the staff they manage and be able to understand and adhere to the Company Disciplinary and Grievance Procedures.

You are to ensure that arrival and departure times of you and your staff are recorded accurately. Should you find a member of staff deliberately falsifying records this must be reported to the Directorate immediately and investigated according to the Company Disciplinary process. You are to address any member of staff whose timekeeping is poor in accordance with the Absence policy Short persistent absence, long term absence, lateness Policy.

You are to monitor Warehouse Operatives and Fork Lift Truck Drivers to ensure they carry out their work to a high standard. Should any staff under your supervision not perform to the required standard, it is your responsibility to inform the Directorate in order to adopt the appropriate performance management steps and training. If this fails to rectify the situation then as the Warehouse Supervisor you will be expected to invoke the Company Disciplinary process.

You are responsible for ensuring the induction of all Warehouse Operatives and training requirements. To ensure that when customers and visitors arrive on site they are greeted and assisted promptly dealing with their enquiry professionally, and ensure visitors are registered properly following Company Procedure.

To attend and make contribution to meetings about improving the warehouse operations.

To ensure the Warehouse and appropriate surrounding area is kept clean and tidy, safe and inviting to others.

You are to allocate duties and work to your staff in a fair manner.

General

A Warehouse Supervisor must lead by example, initiate staff meetings as and when necessary, keeping ALL relevant personnel informed and involved. A Warehouse Supervisor is responsible for morale and must deal with staff in a fair and constructive manner. A Warehouse Supervisor must coach and train staff on the job, encouraging and ensure that where criticism is required it is always constructive.

To maintain and improve standards of work through the undertaking of training, attending courses and keeping up to date with technical information.
