Roles and Responsibilities:
Engineering/Design/Implementation of Web Application Infrastructure, including:
Requirements gathering in the areas of performance, scalability and availability.
Requirements gathering and documentation of application characteristics, including means of implementation, backend resources, third-party software requirements, etc.
Design of web hardware infrastructure. Authorship of design documents, topologies, and guiding these through the design approval process.
Specification of implementation instructions, monitoring requirements, network hardware requirements, application-modification instructions.
Technical support for web application developers.
Monitoring, tuning and performance testing activities for live and in-flight applications.
Hands-on implementation and trouble-shooting in all pre-production environments Required Experience and Competencies:
Concrete understanding and proven experience working with the TCP/IP protocol suite.
Concrete knowledge and understanding of network topologies, routing, switching, firewalls, and network address translation.
Concrete understanding and proven experience working with the following web / application servers: IBM WebSphere Application and Portal Server, IBM HTTP Server.
Concrete understanding and proven experience working with the following web technologies: ASP.NET, Java, J2EE, COM/DCOM, Perl.
Concrete understanding and proven experience working with the following operating systems: Microsoft Windows 2000 / Windows 2003, IBM AIX.
BS in computer science or computer engineering or equivalent combination of education and experience.
3 + yrs experience working with or in support of Internet application development.
Strong oral presentation and written communication skills.
Outstanding time management skills.
Ability to handle multiple priorities, and able to adapt to change.
Analytical problem-solving skills.
