Web Content Strategist Job in Raleigh 27607, North Carolina US
This is a 6 month contract position.
Position is responsible for planning and managing content for department website and employee intranet(behind a firewall). Position is responsible for overseeing all website content requirements and creating all content strategy deliverables (content audits, gap analysis, taxonomies, metadata frameworks, content style guides, content migration plans, etc.) Position will be critical to defining the content quality, processes, and workflow for the websites and applications our teams create. The Web Content Strategist will also work closely with employees to ensure the necessary content is generated using best practices and the methodologies established. Ultimately, the sites must be intuitive for finding information.
Responsibilities include:
- Develop a site analysis/gap analysis
- Create taxonomy/nomenclature lists and definitions
- Assess, catalogue, and organize website content (content inventory)
- Assign and track new content development (content matrix)
- Interview employees and work with various groups on intranet site, and play a key role in creating new information architecture
- Write content
- Edit content written by others
- Develop, maintain, and enforce editorial style guidelines
- Define the editorial workflow for client projects
- Analyze web traffic data and reorganize content to meet user needs
- Work within best practices
- Help create a search optimization plan for content
- Prepare training material
- Be a key member of web development team to develop a content strategy document for both website projects
Ideal candidate will be a self-motivator, self-initiator who is tech savvy, has a clear understanding of websites and developing content that is crystal clear and intuitive, organized, and energized. This person can collaborate well with teams but also work well independently. Candidate is forward-thinking, can turn problems into solutions, works well with diverse groups of people, he/she is highly productive, deadline driven and passionate about their work.
Knowledge, skills and abilities:
- Understanding of how websites technically work (no coding or programming skills required)
- Knowledge of information architecture, information design, and user/consumer interface design
- Clear and concise verbal and written skills; ability to convert legal, policy, technical, and procedural information into easy-to-understand content
- Excellent editing skills
- Excellent interpersonal and customer relations skills
- Excellent time management and organization skills
- Fluency in Windows-based desktop applications, mainly Word, PowerPoint and Excel
- Experience with content management systems preferred
- Expert level attention to detail
- Web analytics/metrics
- Fluency in file types (i.e. jpg, tif, pdf, wav) a must
- Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite- InDesign, Photoshop preferable
Education and Experience Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in English, Journalism, Public Relations, Communications, or Technical Writing preferred. Degree must be from an appropriately accredited institution.
Trained/skilled in/and/or knowledge of how websites technically function and how to write effective web content.
MINIMUM 4 years of demonstrated successful work experience in writing, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Proven work experience is critical.
