BASIC FUNCTION:

The Web Designer primarily conceptualizes and creates visual and interactive designs and content for all official Salve Regina web pages and sites including www.salve.edu, the institutional portal-My Salve, and in social media. The Web Designer collaborates with other web communications staff members to evaluate and maintain for accuracy all digital content and imagery for use on the University web sites, e-marketing, web-based applications, and partnered external services.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Web Designer will provide the creative talent and expertise needed to effectively formulate University messages through various means of electronic communication externally and internally.

The Web Designer will contribute and promote standards of practice and policies pertaining to the University’s web site and other electronic communications.

The Web Designer will collaborate with the Director and other web communications staff to continuously improve the content, organization and layout of the University’s web site www.salve.edu as well as other Salve Regina affiliated web sites and social media channels.

The Web Designer will both creates or collaborate with design services on producing Web-based or multimedia-based layouts, graphics, and animation for use in presentations, Web sites, multimedia programs, e-mails, and other electronic media.

The Web Designer will be knowledgeable of standard concepts, practices, and procedures of Web and digital design (i.e., color theory, layout, typography, spacing and layout).

The Web Designer will utilize a proven understanding of modern Web design techniques such as layout design and concepts and ensures consistency, accuracy, and compliance with branding initiatives and required standards.

The Web Designer will demonstrate a proven ability to react at times to changing priorities, contribute with staff in all phases of Web design and page development, and apply user-testing and feedback cycles to improve Web design and functionality.

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Perform other duties as required by the Associate Vice President, University Relations/CCO and the Vice President for University Relations and Advancement.

LICENSES, TOOLS, AND EQUIPMENT:

Computer proficiency on both Macintosh and PC platforms required. Valid driver’s
license required.
 

Requirements:

Minimum three years of professional experience in this field or equivalent portfolio. Bachelor’s degree required, master’s degree preferred. Proven graphic design background and knowledge of usability, software applications and photo-editing tools required, including industry-specific tools. Proficiency in XHTML/HTML5 programming and CSS design, Cold Fusion and open source content management system design experience preferred. Excellent organizational skills and ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment and demonstrate strong, creative design and project management skills. Must be willing to handle multiple, simultaneous projects and changing priorities. Ability to meet tight deadlines and willingness to respond to communication needs on a timely or emergency basis. Must have professional experience with project management, and knowledge of corporate identity and branding. Strong writing, editing and proofreading skills are desired and knowledge of AP style is a plus.
