The role: Web Developer, Consumer Operations Google's mission is to organize the world's information and make it universally accessible, and we hold the same philosophy for our internal information. The Intranet Web Developer team is responsible for identifying, driving and executing key projects that develop our company intranet. Team members are either technically-focused, building websites and tools, or design-focused, providing UI design for internal sites and applications. You consult with and advise other teams on our internal web presence and tools, and often work with non-technical content owners in departments like People Operations, Facilities and Finance to ensure that important content is readily available. Passionate about expanding our intranet database, you continually improve internal search properties that impact the daily lives of Googlers around the world. The Consumer Operations group focuses on operational support of most of Google's products and is looking for a web developer to play a strategic role in helping successfully scale online support for our users worldwide. Candidates will design and build scalable solutions to improve the online help experience, working both independently and in a team-based environment. This position requires strong HTML abilities, a software development mindset, and meticulous attention to detail. While officially reporting up through the ConOps organization, you will serve as a shared resource for the global help center team. You'll work closely with the backend engineers as well as web developers from other organizations to test, maintain, and develop our online support infrastructure. As part of this initiative, you'll be expected to share pager duties, perform code reviews for other web developers, and enforce system-wide development standards. Responsibilities: * Synthesize requests from multiple individuals, prioritizing appropriately. * Ensure help center front-end system stability via thorough testing of new features, identification of process improvements, and swift issue resolution. * Help to define and refine the user interface to help with self resolution while devising technological solutions to solve online support challenges. * Partner with the online help and support teams to innovate new ways to help Googleas users and customers . * Stay abreast of competitive landscape; learn and apply best practices from industry leaders in online based self-help. Minimum Qualifications: * BA/BS degree (In lieu of degree, 4 years of relevant work experience). * 2 years of relevant work experience including experience implementing and maintaining web content. Preferred Qualifications: * Programming experience (Python, Java, PHP, etc.), experience building mocks, prototypes and wireframes using Adobe CS and comfort working in a UNIX development environment. * A solid, practical understanding of the principles of software engineering and website design optimizations. * A keen eye for clean UI implementation. * The ability to prioritize, communicate and manage projects effectively and cross-functionally. * Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as part of a team. Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills.
