Responsibilities:
The New York Times Regional Media Group is hiring for the position of Developer to work closely with a central web development team servicing 14 properties. The Developer will craft solutions that span editorial and advertising products and work closely with technical counterparts at vendor/partner locations to insure development and integrations conform to requirements and our own best-practice standards. Additionally, the Developer will be responsible for administering systems and environments as necessary to support custom solutions designed in product development working closely with vendors and/or NYTRMG staff.
The Developer will report to the Director of Digital Technology but will work day-to-day with product managers and the development team to produce innovative solutions to challenges using a variety of scripting languages.
The candidate awarded this position is capable of multi-tasking, delivering quality, error-free work on strict deadlines, adjusting readily to changing priorities and rapidly learning new skills. The job entails timely and courteous response to support issues, attention to detail and analysis of complex information. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are a must.
Qualifications:
- HTML/DOM/CSS, JavaScript, PHP/Python/Django or related scripting language
- MySQL/MSSQL or equivalent SQL and database management experience
- Familiarity with feed manipulation in a variety of standard and non-standard formats
- Project and process management skills
- Practical knowledge of CMS publishing
- Proven ability to adapt to new development environments and programming languages
- Portfolio of live, working Web samples
- Familiarity with Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, and/or QuarkXpress a big plus
