The American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE) is seeking a Ruby on Rail Developer to join a veteran staff of developers in the IT Department. Interested persons should submit their resume and cover letter to humanresources@asee.org .
Overview
The Web Developer will be involved in the entire lifecycle of software development, including gathering requirements, prototyping, customer communication, testing, production and documentation. The Web Developer will be working within a team of developers, but will also have the autonomy to be creative.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
- Translating user needs into outstanding products that exceed user expectations
- Producing well written applications that conform to IT department guidelines
- Incorporating testing into product development
- Learning from and contributing to the IT team
Qualifications
- 4 year degree or equivalent work experience
- 4+ years developing web applications
- 2+ years experience with Ruby on Rails
- 4+ years experience with SQL databases
- Experience with installing and using plugins and gems
- Experience with more than one development model, such as Agile development, Full Lifecycle Software Development or Xtreme Programming
- Knowledge of complex table joins, different table inheritance (and class inheritance)
- Process and object modeling knowledge, such as ERD Modeling, Use Case or UML
Relationships
The Web Developer reports to the IT Department Manager and the customer will be primarily the Fellowships and Research Opportunities Department staff. The IT Department Application Architects will provide the guidelines for application design. The Web Developer will work with seven other developers, two specializing in user interaction.
