Job Description Designer / Developer of Web-based applications A requirement for providing effective care is allowing clinicians to quickly interpret, evaluate and document patient information and data. Our research investigates the feasibility of designing a new electronic tool for the documentation of an outpatient visit that will support the management of outpatient care by providing dynamic, contextualized and comparative displays of clinical data in representational formats and visualizations that allow effective synthesizing of knowledge for care decisions and lower the clinician?s required cognitive effort. As a member of this research team, the Interface Designer/Developer will work closely with the Principle Investigator and other team members to design a functional prototype of the patient information documentation tool that would have the following characteristics: a. Dynamic content that can be edited, reused and used for multiple purposes b. High level of usability and minimalist approach to visual representation c. Integrated with an existing web-based prototype Qualifications and Responsibilities Excellent knowledge of human-computer interaction and usability principles. Expertise in coding and debugging HTML, Ajax, CSS, XML, and Java Script. Expertise with developing User Interfaces using Web designer tools including Java Script, Ajax, CSS, XML, Web Services, DHTM, XHTML, Visio, C#, etc. Experience creating detailed wireframes, flowcharts, and interaction design specifications. Understanding of system design elements, trade-offs and rationale to recommend future choices. Ability to prototype navigation models and interaction designs in Dreamweaver or wireframes, to help validate the design for demonstration and usability testing. Code, test and troubleshoot pages using HTML, CSS, and Java Script. Possess excellent visual design skills and an understanding of using UI components. Seeks out opportunities to implement UI improvements. Knowledge of usability, layout, design principles, task flow analysis and storyboarding. Detailed understanding of color, space and topography. Excellent problem solving, and organizational skills Ability to work independently Excellent oral and written communication skills. Education and Experience B.S. in web design, computer science, graphic design, interaction design or a related field. 3-5 years relevant software development experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Knowledge of UX, human-computer interaction and usability principles and related training is essential and strongly preferred.
