Chevron's Deepwater Exploration Projects Business Unit (DWEP) is accepting online applications for the position of Deepwater Well Examiner located in Houston, Texas.

Overview:
This job will be managing DWEP (Deepwater Exploration Production) complex well assessment process and assure the QA/QC of the complex well assessment data in DWEP accurately portrays the risk of each well. Job complexity is significant as well depths exceed 30,000 feet; bottom hole pressures exceed 20,000 psi and annular clearance is extremely tight.

Position Details:
Responsibilities for this position may include but are not limited to:

  • Manage the DWEP complex well assessment process and assure the QA/QC of the complex well assessment data in DWEP accurately portrays the risk of each well.
  • Support NOJV (Non-operated Joint Venture) well engineering issues as directed by the engineering manager.
  • Responsible for all changes during DWEP well operations, re-review and recertify as required the casing design, cementing design and/or barrier plan of each well conform to the Code of Federal Regulations of the United States and Chevron DWEP requirements.
  • Responsible for all new DWEP DC well designs, review and certify that the casing design, cementing design and barrier plan of each well conform to the Code of Federal Regulations of the United States and Chevron DWEP requirements.

    This is a safety sensitive position.

    Required Basic Qualifications:

  • Minimum 7 years drilling engineering experience planning and executing complex, deep, high pressure offshore wells. Experience in a deepwater environment is preferred, but not necessary.
  • Bachelors of Engineering.
  • Extensive understanding of deep well and HPHT design are critical to prevent delays on drill ships that command a total cost of $1MM per day.
  • Extensive StressCheck, WellCat and Opticem analysis are required to perform blowout load analysis for drilling casing in order to obtain permits. WellCat skills are preferred, but not necessary.
  • Demonstrated deep understanding of complex casing loading due of thermal expansion, annulus pressure buildup and tight annular clearances.
  • Must be a registered Professional Engineer in a State in the United Sates. Demonstrated critical design auditing skills are preferred, but not necessary if willing to master.
