West Region Public Affairs Manager - Seattle This position is based in Seattle, WA. The area: Public Policy Our job is to advocate for Google on the big public policy issues of the day. Technology moves quickly, so it's important that we work closely with politicians, regulators, academics and third parties to help them understand the issues that affect the Internet and our users. Google and the web touch a lot of public policy debates, so we're looking for quick-witted, entrepreneurial and intellectually curious people to join our team. The role: West Region Public Affairs Manager A great opportunity exists for bright, well-organized and spirited individuals to work with a stellar team on cutting edge technology issues. You will handle our various product agendas with policy makers inside and outside government. In addition, you will help advise our product and engineering teams on the public policy implications of their products, working with a closely coordinated and cross-functional global team. The role requires significant experience either working with or in government, politics or a regulatory agency as well as an ability to grasp complex technical and policy issues. Responsibilities: Handle our external relationships with community leaders and policy makers inside and outside government in several states where Google has substantial facilities, including, but not limited to Washington, Oregon and Colorado (but not including California). Work cross functionally to develop policy positions for review by Google's policy, legal, and management teams. Advise our sales, product and engineering teams on the engagement opportunities within these states, working with a closely coordinated and cross-functional global team. Advise our product, infrastructure and engineering teams on the local implications of their product or development plans. Develop and lead local engagement strategies that benefit Google's users, our reputation, our business and the wider web. Engage directly with politicians and policy-makers to ensure they understand our company and see our authentic commitment to the community. Build a network of trade associations, industry partners, non-profit groups and others that will help demonstrate that Google is a company authentically committed to strong core values. Monitor and research relevant emerging community and local policy issues. Minimum Qualifications: BA or BSc. In lieu of degree, 4 years of relevant experience. Preferred Qualifications: 10 years of significant experience either working with or in government or politics, some experience with nonprofit organizations and associations as well as an ability to grasp complex technical and policy issues.
