WIRELESS ENGINEER

 

About the Job;

 

Reporting to the Manager, Wireless Technology and Support, the Wireless Engineer-School Wireless Network is responsible for providing engineering support for the maintenance, configuration, installation, troubleshooting and testing the various components that support the wireless network for all Department of Education (DOE) schools.   The Wireless Engineer interacts with DIIT’s Engineering Team to develop, implement and provide technology planning, standards and designs for various wireless clients to ensure continued network connectivity. Performs related work.

Qualification Requirements:

Minimum

Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) or CompTIA Security AND:

 

  1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college, including or supplemented by 24 semester credits in computer science or a related computer field and two (2) years of satisfactory full-time computer software experience in computer systems development and analysis, applications programming, database administration, systems programming, data communications, including one (1) year in a project leader capacity or as a major contributor on a complex project; or
  2. A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and six (6) years of satisfactory full-time computer software experience as described in "1" above, including one (1) year in a project leader capacity or as a major contributor on a complex project; or
  3. Education and/or experience equivalent to "1" or "2" above. College education may be substituted for up to two (2) years of the required experience in "2" above on the basis that 60 semester credits from an accredited college is equated to one (1) year of experience. A Masters degree in computer science or a related computer field may be substituted for one (1) year of the required experience in "1" or "2" above. However, all candidates must have at least a four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and at least one (1) year of satisfactory full-time experience in a project leader capacity or as a major contributor on a complex project.

 

Preferred

 

  1. Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA).Wireless LAN Certification.
  2. Working knowledge of Wireless standards: 802.11b, 802.11g, 802.11a and 802.11n.
  3. Radio Frequency (RF) fundamentals: Spectrum, channels, RF theory, modulation.
  4. WLAN concepts: Association, Authentication, encryption, mixed protocol environments, SSID, transmit power settings, receiver sensitivity, Roaming.
  5. WLAN integration within wired LAN infrastructure: WLAN topologies, multiple users and group support, Backbone switch configuration to support access points, wiring and inline power requirements.
  6. Wireless clients utility configurations: Security configuration, multiple operating systems (windows, MAC OS) and protocol support, multiple vendors wireless NICs, multiple wireless laptop clients and hand-held devices.
  7. Wireless AP configuration: Cisco wireless LAN 4400, 5500 controllers, Cisco 1200, 1240 and 1260 series IOS configuration and Cisco 350 series Vx works configuration, Multi protocols support, IP, AppleTalk, and Voice over wireless, workgroup bridges.
  8. Management and troubleshooting: Device management, RF management, Advanced WLAN management, wireless Sniffers.
  9. Working knowledge of: PEAP, WPA, WPA2, RADIUS.
  10. UNIX scripting is a plus.
