The role: Wireless Systems Validation Engineer
As a Wireless Systems Engineer at Google, you be evaluating and testing novel wireless systems, working closely with the system design team and the business development team to ensure the delivered system is solid and good design tradeoffs have been made. You will study the proposed systems, understand the tradeoffs involved in the design, and contrast against other modern standard. With this understanding, you will design lab and field experiments to evaluate the system performance, provide feedback to the design team, and iterate on the tradeoffs. Finally, you will work with the business development to derive deployment scenarios.
Responsibilities:
- Evaluate and compare the performance of wireless systems.
- Design test scenarios and procedures to validate system performance, instrument and execute large scale wireless systems tests.
- Develop metrics and ways to visualize system performance.
- Manage, coordinate and conduct field testing exercises.
- Analyze system performance, localize effects, and provide feedback to system designers.
Minimum Qualifications:
- BA/BS Degree in an engineering field. In lieu of degree, 4 years relevant work experience.
- 2 years of experience deploying, testing, and evaluating wireless communications systems.
- Mathematical background with a strong understanding of signal processing.
- Ability to program (C++ or Python) and strong familiarity with Matlab or similar signal data analysis tools.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Masters Degree in EE or Physics
- Aptitude for hands-on laboratory and field work with RF and digital hardware with experience deploying novel wireless systems.
- Strong understanding of low level network protocols, 802.3 and 802.11 MACs etc., and some familiarity with WAN protocols such as GSM.
- Experience with designing experiments to collect and measure data.
