WMP Business Analyst recruitment
Position Description:
The Company
Tracing our roots to 1928, Wellington Management Company, LLP is one of the world's largest independent investment management firms. With US$719 billion in assets under management as of 31 March 2012, we serve as a trusted adviser to institutional clients and mutual fund sponsors in over 50 countries. Our innovative investment solutions are built on the strength of proprietary, independent research and span nearly all segments of the global capital markets, including equity, fixed income, multi-asset, and alternative strategies. As a private partnership whose sole business is investment management, our long-term views and interests are aligned with those of our clients. We are committed to attracting a talented and diverse workforce, and to fostering an open, collaborative culture of inclusivity because we believe multiple perspectives lead to more informed investment and business decisions. We welcome people with diverse life experiences, fresh ideas, and specialized subject-matter expertise.
Responsibilities
The WMP group is responsible for the business of the firm's non-US institutional mutual funds, known generically as Wellington Management Portfolios or WMP. These comprise 66 funds offering a variety of investment styles, domiciled in seven different legal jurisdictions. Currently assets in WMP funds are approximately $24 billion.
Commanding a thorough knowledge of WMP's business, coupled with strong interpersonal skills, the London-based WMP Business Analyst will work closely with other members of the team on a broad range of business and investment related activities. It is expected that the Business Analyst will primarily support initiatives and activities associated with interest in WMP funds from the firm's traditional institutional client base (as opposed to matters relating to third-party fund distribution by institutional financial intermediaries). This will require partnering cross-functionally with the firm's Global Relationship Group (GRG), who are primarily responsible for marketing, business development and client servicing activities, as well as with WMP Administration, Legal and Compliance colleagues, and some external service providers, to ensure that WMP meets the needs of various client-market segments. In addition, the Business Analyst will support WMP's regional initiatives on a broad range of product, distribution, and other fund-related activities.
Key responsibilities are as follows:
* Provide a single point of contact and expertise for the key institutional client-facing GRG teams in London (for example, UK, Europe, Sovereigns) for all fund-related queries;
* Identify non-standard aspects of a WMP client opportunity, liaising with the WMP Regional Manager and other stakeholders in providing a response and, if possible, implementing a solution;
* Provide the WMP Regional Manager, WMP Product Development and GRG with relevant WMP fund data (for example, assets and flows analysis);
* Provide support to the WMP Regional Manager, WMP Product Development and GRG with preparing presentation materials;
* Work on assigned WMP projects relating both directly to WMP institutional client business and the WMP enterprise more broadly;
* Coordinate the onboarding of new WMP accounts, ensuring that Fund Information Sheets, Dealing Procedures and Guidelines, KIIDs and other fund documents are updated or produced as necessary;
* Ensure compliance with all WMP policies.
The Business Analyst will have the opportunity to work closely with individuals in Boston as well as individuals in other non-US offices. In addition, the Business Analyst will work closely with the cross functional groups that support WMP.
Qualifications
The successful candidate is likely to have:
*5+ years relevant experience, preferably obtained at a fund management company;
* A good understanding of European fund structures (preferably Dublin and/or Luxembourg UCITS), related fund documentation (e.g. prospectuses and KIIDs) as well as other matters such as tax transparency;
* Relevant professional experience, including direct buy-side experience of supporting institutional and/or wholesale client relationships;
* A strong client service orientation and relevant institutional client service experience;
* An interest in investment management, preferably with an understanding of UK and European institutional requirements;
* The ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects/issues amid a fast-paced, team-oriented environment;
* Good project management skills, the ability to synthesize information quickly and to identify, research and resolve unfamiliar issues;
* Strong analytical skills, with attention to detail and an ability to outline and improve processes;
* Strong academic credentials. A Bachelor's degree is required, and progress towards the CFA charter would be preferable, although not required;
* Excellent communication skills, both oral and written. Fluency in a second European language would be preferable, although not required.
* Microsoft Office Intermediate skills, particularly Excel, are essential.
Please note that we are only able to respond to successful applicants.
