Position Summary
The Claims Supervisor is responsible for managing ongoing operations of a workers’ compensation team. This position directly supervises Claims Adjusters; ensures efficient and effective operations and is ultimately responsible for maintaining objective production and quality standards and measurements.
Functions and Responsibilities
- Coordinate daily workload for the team; be available as a resource to answer any technical/legal related questions as they arise to ensure that claims are settled according to client’s expectations and regulatory requirements
- Build and maintain positive relationships with clients and their staff members; regularly communicate claims activity and proactively advise of any potential problems; provide weekly status reports and represent the company at all formal meetings/presentations
- Drive and communicate metrics standards to the team; consistently communicate any shortcomings to individuals and coach when appropriate to ensure that high quality standards and claims count activity is always maintained
- Proactively build a strong claims team; mentor junior claims adjusters, coordinate internal and external training, consistently create a fun yet challenging work environment and mentor team members to meet their professional goals
- Maintain knowledge of current law and recent court decisions affecting workers’ compensation and property liability claims handling; keep abreast of industry standards for claims handling and management
- Be a resource for the team in any way including processing claims or performing any other adjuster related job function when needed
- Perform various supervisory duties such as staffing, time tracking, employee coaching/counseling, performance evaluations, etc.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from four-year college or university; or one to two years’ related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Ability to read, analyze and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents; ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community; ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format; ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors
- Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume; ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry

- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists; ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or scheduled form
- 5 years claims handling experience
- Minimum of 2 years progressively responsible supervisory experience
- Hold an All Lines Adjuster license
- Experience in property/casualty claims in the state of Texas
- Thorough knowledge of Texas Workers’ Compensation regulations and standards
- Strong organizational skills
- Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
- Excellent ability to manage time and resources
- Proficient in MS Office
- Ability to lift up to 10 lbs.
