Workshop Technician

39 hours per week

Additional hours as required

 

Reporting to the Operations Manager your main responsibilities will include:

·         Performing cutting and machining operations relating to the specialist operations of the laboratory to recognised standards or internal specifications

·         Performing routine preventative maintenance on workshop equipment

·         Ensuring that measuring devices are accurate and within calibration

·         Ensuring that worksheets are filled out correctly and in accordance with Exova internal procedures

·         Monitoring the availability of workshop consumables

·         Assisting with booking in jobs in goods received area when required

·         Contributing to the improvement in the organisation and efficiency of the workplace

·         Conducting other duties as reasonably requested by the Workshop Supervisor

·         Shift working as required – nightshift or dayshift

 

As a successful candidate you will be educated to a good general standard including English and Maths with a National Award/National Certificate in Engineering being preferred. An SVQ/NVQ Level 2 in Performing Engineering is beneficial for this role but not essential. You will have a broad experience of working within an engineering workshop environment. Previous experience is essential in addition to demonstrable use of CNC and Manual machines. Good attention to detail is required across all workshop operations, with the ability to read and prepare samples from technical drawings. A general ability to be able to cut material using band saws and preferably other generic workshop machine tools such drills and linishing machines is also required. The work can be physically demanding, requiring a willingness to work additional hours when required. Some welding experience is advantageous.

 

We are looking for a professional team player with strong written and verbal communication skills.  Strong problem solving and analytical skills are essential as is the ability to work alone under your own initiative. The ability to work well under pressure and organise and prioritise is essential for this role.
