Job Description/Purpose
Resident Engineer - Routing Operations, NJ
Key Responsibilities
Reporting to a Service Delivery Manager, Americas, this is a very technical role, providing on-site support of Junipers Network Products. The Resident Engineer will execute and assist with software and hardware certification of Juniper Networks M-series, T-series and MX-series products. This position is located at the at the customer site and requires an experienced candidate in Networking Routing Protocols.
Responsibilities:
- Understand the customer's organizational structure and become familiar with the customer's processes and procedures.
- Carry out testing of new features and functionality required by the customer in a laboratory
environment.
- Test patches and fixes to ensure that they are implemented and functioning correctly.
- Provide customer with assistance solving network related problems, such as malfunctions
and configuration problems.
- Review and analyze customer network design to locate potential problems, and correct them
by working with the customer on better solutions.
- Read manuals, technical reports and study new technolgies meeting the customers support
requirements.
- Triage found issues and assist JTAC collecting information and with on-site reproductions.
- Coordinate with internal teams to increase the efficiency of problem resolution
- Produce a written summary report of the status of certification progress on a regular basis.
- Assist the customer to develop Network Operating and Equipment Operating Procedures.
Skills/Required Experience:
- English Language — Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including
the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.
- Customer and Personal Service — Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer
and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality
standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
- 3-5 years of experience supporting IP/MPLS networks.
- IP-TCP/UDP fundamentals
- Good understanding and hands on experience with OSPF, LDP, RSVP and BGP protocols.
- Good understanding of MPLS enabled networks and applications (l3vpn, l2tp, vpls,..)
- Scripting knowledge of Perl or Expect
- Experience in fault isolation logic and techniques.
- Experience with various lab testing tools (Agilent, Ixia,..)
- IP subnetting and supernetting and hierarchical routing principles
- Understanding of Layer 2 protocols and technologies such as: PPP, MLP, Frame Relay,
ATM, Ethernet
- Hands-on configuration and operational knowledge of CISCO or Juniper Networks routers
- Team Player, Strong communication and interpersonal skills required
- Experience in supporting large scale ISP customers is a plus.
- Requires B.S. in electrical engineering, computer science or similar degree
