Actuarial – Syndicate Capital Analyst recruitment

If you've got working knowledge of the commercial general insurance business and ideally of the London Market, along with either an actuarial qualification or a commitment towards gaining one, this could be the ideal role.

Above all, you will assist in the provision, co-ordination, training and delivery of actuarial support to the reviews of syndicate capital models including model validation. This will involve working closely with the Syndicate Capital Manager of Market Reserving and Capital, liaising with the capital steering group and Solvency II account managers.

What will you do?

* Actuarial aspect of Syndicate Capital Reviews
- Support the process design for MRC's review of syndicate capital models, validation and results.
- Assist the design and delivery of technical criteria, while reviewing the framework and documentation to demonstrate to external parties (such as the FSA) the robustness of the review process.
- Help the MRC resources planning to undertake the reviews.
- Conduct the provision and updating of formal guidance/requirements on the actuarial aspects of the review of syndicate capital models and validation.
- Oversee the process to ensure guidelines are in line with the latest regulatory requirements and can be demonstrated to be so if required.
- Upkeep the design and provision of relevant review 'tools' (such as simplified side models to run as sense checks) to assist in the reviews.
- Actively participate in the review of syndicate models.
* Communications
- Provide internal training on the required process and technical requirements.
- Contribute to the communication to the Capital Steering Group (currently the ICA Steering group) of plans, process and emerging issues or trends.
- Liaise with Solvency II account managers on all aspects of the process.
- Answer MRC Analysts queries or issues.
- Assist in communicating the process and time frames to the market.
- Collaborate with other technical leads on Solvency II compliance to ensure consistent and co-ordinated approaches.
* Syndicate capital benchmark
- Utilise detailed knowledge of syndicate capital benchmark tool, which is owned by MRC's capital modelling team.
- Participate in the annual update of the benchmark tool where required.
* Provide support to MRC general actuarial and reserving activities.

What you'll need
* Potential to obtain an advanced level of IT skills (Excel, Access and VB).
* Ability to successfully manage own time and priorities.
* Capability to communicate effectively with management, colleagues, other departments and market representatives.
* Demonstrable ability to answer queries in a timely and efficient manner especially when under pressure.
* A commitment to study for and pass 2-3 professional actuarial exams p.a. whilst working toward actuarial qualification.
* Desire to develop further actuarial skills and keep up with industry news and developments.
* Awareness of the Business Continuity Plan including response to alarms, meeting places and call cascades
