ACTUARIAL TRAINEE (Part Qualified) recruitment

My Client, a leading pensions specialist in Glasgow, is looking to recruit two part-qualified actuarial trainees of the highest quality, to strengthen the practice’s actuarial and consulting capability. The positions available are at varying levels with one role being slightly more senior than the other.
Core Responsibilities:
- Providing an efficient, high quality service and actuarial back up to clients in the field of actuarial and consulting advice relating to client’s employee benefits schemes.
- Managing work on nominated clients to ensure that work is done on time and within budget.
- Liaising with client managers and team leaders if there are conflicting demands on staff time from different clients.
- Developing and maintaining a good working relationship with nominated clients.
- Preparing client invoices with the internal deadlines and subject to internal procedures.
- Ensuring all work is undertaken in a rigorous, accurate and methodical manner.
- Ensuring comprehensive audit trails are maintained.
- Being aware of deadlines and planning work in order to meet deadlines.
- Maintaining a record of current status of all work requested in accordance with agreed
procedures. - Presenting work in a clear and understandable manner to clients and colleagues as requested.
- Working with colleagues when necessary on technical or client matters.
- Preparing actuarial calculations, under instruction where necessary.
- Developing knowledge of actuarial and pensions matters which are relevant to the requirements of the job.
- Timely and careful time recording against appropriate client, matter and job codes.
Core Skills:
- First class organisational and communication abilities.
- First class client relationship management skills.
- Proven ability to manage multiple and sometimes conflicting demands.
- Able to co-ordinate activity amongst individual client teams and effectively manage upwards by providing timely and accurate input for management teams.
- The drive and motivation to develop their actuarial career in a client focused consultancy.
- Able to demonstrate a proactive approach in developing consultancy and management skills
Core Requirements:
- A strong degree (ideally 2.1 or above) in a numerate subject.
- Making progress with either the Faculty or Institute of Actuaries examinations (or an equivalent recognised qualification)
- Strong IT skills are essential, in particular an advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
- Relevant pensions experience.
- A sound grounding in actuarial and computer techniques used in the valuation of pension benefits and the management of membership databases.
- An understanding of the legislative framework for UK pension schemes, commensurate with the level of experience in pensions actuarial work.
