Job Description: The registered nurse is accountable for the coordination of nursing care, including direct patient care, patient/family education and discharge planning. The RN supports professional nursing practice across practice settings and across the continuum of care to meet the needs of the patient and family. This position includes accountability for planning, implementing, evaluating and communicating all phases of nursing care for assigned patients. The ANA Standards of Clinical Nursing Practice provide a basis for the practice of the registered nurse. The RN provides leadership through activities such as preceptor role, charge nurse assignment, and committee work. The RN must posses excellent communication skills, be skillful in mentoring and teaching, and actively participate on committees or projects. In the Charge Nurse role, the RN will act as the clinical resource person in their work area for the length of time they are on duty. They will assure the patient care provided during the shift they work is organized and carried out in a safe, efficient manner. If the RN shows competency in orientation to the ED and OB specialty, the RN will provide care to either one or both of the specialty populations within the RN scope of practice and abide by all organizational policies and procedures. Basic Qualifications: ?Maintains Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) competency. ?Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) competency ? required within 6 months of hire and prior to working in ER/Charge RN role. ?Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) or Comprehensive Advanced Life Support (CALS) ? required within 1 year of hire and prior to working in ER/Charge role. ?Basic EKG class ? required within 6 months of hire. ?Additional specialty certification/training for ED (PALS, NRP) and OB (NRP, Basic and Intermediate Fetal Heart Monitoring courses). License or Certification: Current Minnesota RN license, current license deemed acceptable by the Minnesota State Board of Nursing, or graduate of an accredited school of nursing with a permit to practice as a graduate nurse.
