The graduate Administrative Fellowship Program has been in place at Providence Health Care for more than 20 years. The Fellow is a major support and part of the Senior Leadership Team (SLT) for a one year experience commencing September 2012 . It is a full-time position.
The program aims to contribute to the profession and the broader system by developing and launching well-prepared healthcare leaders. In an increasingly competitive market for health care professionals the Administrative Fellowship Program provides an opportunity for the organization to attract, retain and plan for succession at the administrative level. The selected internal or external applicant will have a unique opportunity to be exposed to relationships, work experience and decision-making processes at a senior level in an academic health care organization.
A letter of recognition acknowledging the successful completion of the Program will be provided by the CEO at the end of the experience.
Objectives of the Fellowship Program:
for Providence Health Care
- to provide an opportunity for the development of skills required to meet the challenges of leadership positions in health care
- to enhance the Fellow’s understanding of how to meet the Mission and Vision of an organization providing services across the continuum of care
- to provide a bridge for a recent graduate from academia to practice
- to provide a learning/development opportunity that fits the Fellow’s individual needs
- to make a contribution to the pool of talented leaders in health care
for the Fellow
- to work with a SLT Mentor on an ongoing basis and to develop a learning and development plan with the Mentor to meet mutually agreed learning objectives
- to work with and engage internal and external stakeholders in planning and implementing a number of management projects that contribute to the organization’s ability to meet its Mission and Vision
- to work with and engage internal and external stakeholders in meeting assigned line and/or staff responsibilities that contribute to the organization’s ability to meet its Mission and Vision
- to engage in leadership learning through participation in the “Leading at Providence” program
Competencies:
The Fellow will possess or demonstrate the ability to develop the following competencies (based on the LEADS capabilities framework) which has been adopted by all B.C. Health Authorities :

Minimum Qualifications:
- Master’s degree relevant to Health Services Administration (eg MHA,MBA,MPH) completed within the last 3 years
- A demonstrated interest in a career in Health Services Administration
Other Expectations:
- Articulated interest in contributing to an area(s) of organizational focus
- Identify(with Mentor) and select specific assignments according to agreed upon learning objectives and organizational need
- Provide ongoing support to the Senior Leadership Team
- Take on increasing levels of responsibility in assignments over the course of the Fellowship
- Complete at least one major project that is suitable for publication
- Participate in the selection of the incoming Fellow

- One page covering letter with a brief statement outlining career objectives, areas of management/administrative interest and expectations of the Fellowship Program (Note: internal applicants must also demonstrate the support of their leader for this application and how this experience aligns with their career goals and ongoing development plan)
- Evidence of completion of Masters program
- Curriculum vitae
- Two letters of recommendation
- A select list of candidates will be invited for an interview(to be conducted in early June)
