Macquarie Securities Group (MSG) is a global institutional securities house covering sales, research, ECM, execution and derivatives and delta one activities. MSG uses its research and risk management skills to develop equity-based solutions and services for clients internationally.
Providing analysis and market intelligence across key industry sectors, Macquarie Research has one of the largest research teams in the Asia pacific region and has a significant presence in North America, the UK and South Africa.
With the expansion of our commodity service offering in EMEA, Macquarie is seeking a Junior Research Associate to work within the top-ranked commodity research team, with a focus on agricultural and soft commodities. The successful individual will be trained to assist the team in providing market intelligence for both internal and external clients. The role requires strong economics and analytical skills, as well as excellent client relationship and communication skills. Knowledge on the farming or agricultural sector will be advantageous, though not a key requirement. Other responsibilities will include:
- Acting as the first point of contact for queries coming into the department
- Assist fellow team members in forecasting and reporting the underlying drivers and future trends across the commodities market
- Helping to produce regular delivery reports for distribution
- Data analysis
- Start building out supply/demand and other research models in livestock and other commodity markets
Skills and experience required:
- Excellent communication skills, comfortable with phone and one to one interaction
- Ability to effectively and efficiently analyse data, and a passion for understanding the story behind it
- A degree of flexibility with working hours
- Experience in the use of Microsoft Excel / PowerPoint Word
- A confident team player with a proven ability to build relationships
- Background in economics or statistics, with strong analytical and data handling skills
- A keen interest in agriculture or commodities
- First class organisational and time management skills
- Pro-active and creative individual coupled with a demonstrated entrepreneurial nature and a commercial focus
