The Service
The Institutional Investor Service (IIS) is specifically designed to meet the unique needs and workflow of the buyside community; a rapidly growing and proven market segment for Wood Mackenzie. The IIS team leverages off Wood Mackenzie expertise by tailoring content and analysis from across the company’s research platform. A key IIS characteristic is the high-level of direct engagement with clients including the delivery of bespoke analysis in response to individual client requests.
Role Description
This is an entry-level role which will provide exposure and insight into both the Energy and Metals Mining space. The primary objective for the IIS Research Analyst will be to use Wood Mackenzie research and data tools to support analysis by Senior IIS Analysts. Responsibilities will also include tailoring and publication of research for the IIS website and support for the development and production of future service enhancements and modules.
The successful candidate will be supported in gaining experience and industry knowledge across the Energy and Metals Mining space and ultimately developing the skill-set to put together timely and well researched responses to client requests. Client facing abilities and a good commercial awareness are pre-requisites.
Main Responsibilities
Production and Delivery of the IIS Research Product
- Develop complete familiarity and working knowledge of the Content Authoring and Client Alert systems required for management and publication of content on the IIS website.
- Support Senior Analysts with client requests data downloads: using the wider Wood Mackenzie product suite.
- Support Senior Analysts with basic research: pull together data from Wood Mackenzie and external sources to support any specific IIS-led research pieces.
- Contribute to the identification and tailoring of research content from across the business for publication on the IIS website.
- Keep abreast of developments in the Energy and Metals Mining Industries, identifying key themes and questions.
- Develop a deep understanding of the IIS client base including: typical workflows, investment strategies, specific areas and themes of focus, key contacts and individual client contributions to product revenue.
- Follow IIS best practice policies for the team and its interactions with all Wood Mackenzie teams and functions.
- Contribute new ideas, enthusiasm and a desire for excellence to the work of the team.
Business Development
- Assist IIS Senior Analysts and Account Managers in maintaining and improving relationships with existing clients and marketing to new targets.
- Co-operate and communicate fully with the Account Management and Marketing teams in the Business Development process.
Communication
- Develop and maintain a strong internal network of contacts across Wood Mackenzie’s research organisation and account management teams to ensure published research is consistent with expert views, thought provoking and avoids duplication of efforts.
- Share information and ideas freely with colleagues in the IIS team and across the wider Corporate Analysis Group.
Knowledge and Experience
The role is suited for a recent college graduate with a good honours degree in a business or energy related technical discipline and an interest in developing a career as an Energy and/or Metals Mining Analyst. Some industry experience and/or knowledge of valuation techniques/economics would be an advantage. Self-starter with proven communication and well developed relationship skills.
