Analytical Data Manager, Portfolio Engineering
The CPP Investment Board is a professional investment management organization that invests the funds not needed by the Canada Pension Plan to pay current benefits on behalf of 18 million Canadian contributors and beneficiaries. In order to build a diversified portfolio of CPP assets, the CPP Investment Board invests in public equities, private equities, real estate, inflation-linked bonds, infrastructure and fixed income instruments. The Global Tactical Asset Allocation (“GTAA”) group within Public Market Investments generates alpha in the multi-strategy global macro space by developing and implementing top-down active strategies. We are currently recruiting for an Analytical Data Manager, Portfolio Engineering to support the research, design and implementation of world-class active investment strategies in our rapidly expanding GTAA group. Role Specific Accountabilities:
- Manage and enhance GTAA’s data infrastructure through initiatives such as improving metadata and data integrity
- Institutionalize knowledge of data used in GTAA’s investment processes
- Work closely with researchers and portfolio managers to develop data sets for new investment models and other research purposes
- Work with our technology team to design and implement data related tools and analytics
- Assist in the day-to-day activities of managing a GTAA portfolio and the monitoring of GTAA’s investment models. Assist in the research process and back testing of strategies. Stay current with new vendor product offerings and how they might be used by GTAA
- Stay current with trends in the data and analytics space (e.g. visualization techniques, Big Data, etc.)
Required Skills:
- Masters degree in fields related to Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, or Economics (a strong undergraduate degree would also be considered for the role); CFA designation and or MBA desirable
- Minimum of 5 years working with and interpreting financial data; extensive knowledge of financial data sets
- Familiarity with financial data vendors such as Bloomberg and Thomson Reuters and their product offerings
- Demonstrated interest in financial markets; ability to interpret economic news and market conditions
- Solid programming skills with professional programming experience in a data context (e.g. data extraction, data manipulation, data analysis, etc.)
- Strong analytical skills. Knowledge of visualization techniques would be an asset
- Ability to work in a culture of high performance, under pressure to perform with time-sensitive deadlines
