Background
Our client is a multi-billion dollar electronic trading firm with offices across the globe. They specialise in developing technology driven trading models across the full spectrum of instruments and asset classes. They pride themselves on being at the forefront of technical advancements not only in the financial domain but also across the software engineering and technology areas. They are now seeking to appoint analytical scientists for their global offices, ideally candidates who have no financial experience but have the necessary skills to apply their academic/ commercial skills to the faster paced financial industry. In terms of background, candidates with a research or development background from the military/ defence, software engineering, telecommunications or internet industries are preferable. This is an ideal opportunity for someone from outside of finance to get a unique opportunity to make the transition into finance for an established yet still growing trading firm.
Responsibilities
You will work in a very small and collegiate environment and the global head feels this creates the ideal environment to foster research. Your role will involve doing empirical research, developing and optimising analytical suites, developed large scale multi-threaded and low latency applications whilst also developing large scale algorithms using gigabytes of data within milliseconds. Key areas of interest are computational modelling, socket programming, machine learning, text mining and scientific computing.
You
• Academic background from an established global institution within Physics, computer science, scientific computing or mathematics.
• Technical proficiency across C/C++, R, Matlab, VBA, Excel.
• Some exposure to developing or optimising algorithms or working with large scale data sets.
• Motivated by transitioning into finance and understanding how your skill set can be applied.
