- Provide analysis input to support the development of department seasonal strategies and prioritize tasks to support divisional strategies and meet financial targets.
- Provide information and ideas to develop department key concepts, key items, and store assortments that are commercially viable and provide an exciting customer store experience.
- Rank styles based on historical and current product performance, and identify redundancies in the product assortment.
- Identify product categories where smart risks can be taken and protect basic businesses in order to meet financial targets.
- Ensure Brand is protected at all times using the brand filter and through analysis of brand’s position in the market as it relates to the competition.
- Partner with Production in the development of costing and placement strategies.
- Possess an understanding of production timelines and minimums.
- Recommend and implement pricing strategies for specific product categories.
- Determine target cost, deliveries and projections with factories.
- Lead in the fitting garments and review product details to ensure product execution meets the design aesthetic as well as commercially acceptable quality standards.
- Identify business opportunities and risks in-season through analyzing sales performance and gathering marketplace information.
- Make recommendations for strategy changes in-season where needed.
- Actively listen to all members of the cross-functional team to ensure that tasks are well integrated.
- Partner with graphic department to develop monthly graphic assortments specific to customer needs.
- Work with Merchants within the Division to ensure strong teamwork.
- Protect business needs by building on proven class, taking smart risk on new opportunities and create replacement strategies on exiting businesses.
- Demonstrate visionary ability in order to keep the brand moving forward.
- Actively research and observe the competition on a Design, pricing and marketing standpoint to keep the brand ahead of its competitors.
- Partner with sales, design, Tech Design and Production to ensure designs are interpreted in realistic Specs to be ultimately produced.
- Demonstrate knowledge of the target customer and of product trends; customer-oriented
- Possess a clear understanding of financial measurements and how to impact them.
- Analyze a problem skillfully, formulate a logical rationale for the decision and take action.
- Demonstrate the organizational ability to facilitate multi-tasking in a fast-paced environment.
- Possess a strong point of view. Strong sense of Style and design in a broad definition.
- Possess strong presentation, listening, verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrate the willingness to take smart risks
- Maintain a cooperative team environment that promotes high performance standards and attainment of goals.
- Possess working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Excel, and Illustrator
- Bachelor’s degree.
- Experience as a Merchandiser or equivalent.
- 3-5 years of retail or Wholesale buying/merchandising experience.
- 1-2 years of management experience.
- Ability to transport, maneuver and visually evaluate merchandise.
