APPLICATIONS DEVELOPMENT MANAGER (Object Oriented)
This nationally known manufacturer with headquarters in Roanoke, VA, is seeking to hire an experienced IT Applications Development Manager.
Position is responsible for the daily operation and long term viability of specific IT applications and/or technologies and project management and administration related to the applications technologies. Provides supervision, work direction and problem solving to direct reports. Develops project plans, schedules and contingency plans. Develops and specifies strategies for maintenance and enhancement of applications. Works with IT leadership organization leadership and other IT management to ensure that organizational and IT goals are met and that application/technology strategies align with those goals. Communicates IT application strategies, issues, priorities and tactics both orally and in writing. Assists with departmental budgets and project cost estimates. Monitors and controls expenditures in accordance with departmental and project-oriented budgets. Responsible for IT controls and quarterly/yearly audit of these controls. Works closely with upper management on strategic vision for IT and then oversees building overall strategic plan to build and implement selected systems and technology.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
--Familiarity with Information Engineering and agile IT development methodologies
--Multi-year's full life-cycle SDLC experience in developing and supporting enterprise scale software systems
--Successful experience in managing and delivering large scale software renovation/implementation projects
--Broad and in-depth expertise in software requirement analysis, conceptual and logical architecture design
--Excellent in idea generation, evaluation, prioritization, and cross-functional technical program management
--Hands-on experience with a wide range of technologies: Java, Eclipse, SQL Server, Postgres, SQL, JSF, BIRT, GlassFish, Apache/Tomcat, etc.
--Experience in JBoss EAP, JBoss SOA-P, and BRMS a plus
--Experience with manufacture ERPs, such as JD Edwards a plus
--Excellent organizational and communication skills blended with innovative technical vision.
--Strong time management and problem solving skills.
--Strong sense of documentation and standardization across multiple stages of software development
--Specifies and executes application and technology strategies that align with organization
and IT goals
--Supervises, directs and analyzes problems for direct reports and others within the
organization (staff consisting of applications developers and support personnel)
--Develops project plans and schedules, contingency plans and system documentation
--Identifies problems and proposes or implements solutions
--Communicates IT application strategies, issues, priorities and tactics both orally and in
writing
--Provides training and counsel to organization in issues related applications and technology
--Assists the IT Director with departmental budgets---monitors and controls expenditures in
accordance with departmental and project-oriented budgets
--Perform other duties as assigned
REQUIREMENTS
--Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related degree with experience in programming
and/or systems analysis and design in preferred
--Minimum of 3+ years of technical experience in specific software application or technology
--Demonstrated Agile project management (PM) and programming experience
--Minimum of 3+ years supervision within a technical field including systems design,
programming and applications support
--Experience with SOX and auditing of IS controls
--5+ years in supervision, systems design, programming and applications support in an
Object Oriented Environment highly preferred (Large Open Systems)
--Java/J2EE, Linux, Redhat JBoss and Oracle type architecture experience highly desired
--iSeries AS/400 computer system (RPG/ERP systems) experience is a plus
--5+ year experience in support of Object Oriented type of application systems (like JD Edwards EnterpriseOne) is a plus
--Excellent Verbal and Written communications skills
--Ability to successfully communicate technical information to a non-technical audience
--Functional knowledge of primary programming languages utilized to include Java and JBoss
in addition to other languages, tools and applications (Visio, Excel, Word, MS Project)
DESIRED
--"Shirt Sleeve" development/management experience
--Agile Project Management background
--Strong Manufacturing/Distribution background
--Specific Windows/Building Materials industry is a plus
--Strong Object Oriented Architecture background is a must
--Experience in a Service Oriented Architechture (SOA) environment preferred
--Java, Linux, Redhat JBoss and other Object Oriented technologies background preferred
--JDE EnterpriseOne or other iSERIES AS/400 based ERP systems is a plus
--Experience in a multi-plant manufacturing operation
--Background managing both onsite developer staff and outsourced staffing
