Asset Management Technology – Developer, Analyst / Associate recruitment

BUSINESS UNIT OVERVIEW:

GSAM Technology is directly aligned to the business, working on a variety of software engineering problems that range in duration from hours to years. It is a fast-paced environment, adapting to market and customer needs to create software that is robust enough to cater to an ever-changing business environment. GSAM Technology utilizes an array of different technologies with increasing development focus on open source and Linux-based technologies.

Within the Asia Pacific region, GSAM Technology has teams in Tokyo, Singapore, Hong Kong, China and Bangalore.  The teams work closely together to serve business users all over Asia (Tokyo, Hong Kong, China, Australia, Seoul, Bangalore, and Singapore) and in some cases other regions (New York/London). 

GSAM Federation Technology team is part of GSAM Technology and supports the GSAM Federation business users of the firm.  The supported user group includes Operations, Sales and Marketing, Compliance, Controllers and Shareholders Services.  This technology team is responsible for designing, developing, enhancing and maintaining the tools and systems used by their business users to perform their business functions.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The successful candidate will work as an analyst developer writing software as part of a small team based in the Singapore office.  Work will include both global and local projects with full life-cycle involvement from analysis and design through to implementation and support.  Responsibilities will include working closely with the Federation business users to refine requirements and develop solutions to meet these requirements. Good teamwork communication skills are essential.

The systems developed and supported by the group range from vendor applications to in-house applications, and supported functionalities includes trade management, client reporting, mutual fund reporting, reconciliation, fund accounting, and compliance surveillance tools.  These systems are developed and deployed both globally and regionally and are built using a number of technologies: Java, C#, scripting languages, Sybase, Tomcat.

- Maintain and support existing production systems directly with the federation users.
- To work closely with federation users to establish requirements.
- Work as part of the Global team.
- Work on development of global strategic projects and regional specific tools.
- Build maintain strong relationships with business users and other technology teams
- Understand the key drivers of the business and the products traded

DEVELOPMENT PROSPECTS

The role involves working closely with  Sales/Marketing, Operations, Fund Services, Controllers, and Compliance userspresenting an opportunity to learn a great deal about whole flow of GSAM business and to become familiar with a variety of products traded within GSAM Asia.  The role will also involve coaching of other members of the team and taking a lead in promoting strong analysis, developing and support practises.  This will provide an opportunity to show strategic initiative and leadership in these areas

SKILL / EXPERIENCE

MANDATORY
• 3+ yrs experience in business facing IT role.
• Highly motivated with a desire to work in a technical role closely aligned with federation business units.
• Strong analytical skills.
• Strong teamwork skills along with experience in coaching / mentoring.
• Strong communication and client-facing skills.
• Strong desire to learn the business.
• Personal organization and task management.
• Attention to detail.
• Experience with Java is essential.
• Experience with Sybase/SQL is essential.

PREFERRED
• Familiarity with Linux/Solaris operating platform.
• Ideally candidate would have some Asset Management or financial industry experience.
• Japanese/Mandarin/Korean language is a plus.

QUALIFICATIONS

University degree or equivalent.
