To make your mark as the Assistant Controller, you will be responsible for:
35%: Business Operations Accounting, Analysis, Support
- Provide financial and business expertise to Business Operations in the development and enhancement of Insurance products and services.
- Evaluate business proposals and offer recommendations to ensure development of profitable and efficient business processes that incorporate proper internal controls.
- Coordinate with other financial managers to determine which entities are involved in business transactions and the proper accounting for each entity involved.
- Ensure that financial transactions resulting from operations are accurately reflected in the accounting records of Toyota Motor Insurance Services and its subsidiaries.
- Direct staff in the completion of duties related to month-end close, development of accounting processes, and testing of SOX controls.
25%: Financial Reporting and Analysis
- Accountable for the timely and accurate presentation of financial information and analyses related to Insurance Group operations. Direct staff and provide business insight in the completion of activities such as:
- Preparing and issuing consolidated financial reports (for Toyota Motor Insurance Services and its two subsidiaries)
- Providing financial information and analytical support to internal customers
- Preparing financial schedules and footnote disclosures for SEC filings iFEM (Japan) consolidated reporting
- Keeping current on accounting guidance to ensure compliance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP)
- Coordinating GAAP-basis interim and year-end audits
- Preparing GAAP-basis certified financial statements and footnotes
- Generating ad hoc financial analyses as requested by management
20%: Cash Investments Accounting and Analysis
- Oversee accounting, custody, and reporting activities related to cash and investments held by the three companies within Insurance operations.
- Establish and maintain proper controls and business processes to ensure safeguarding of each company's assets.
- Act as a high-level liaison with Treasury to implement an effective cash and investment strategy. Ensure the liquidity needs of the various Insurance entities are met while also optimizing investment yield.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP and statutory guidelines.
- Provide investment information used for internal and external reporting, including SEC filings and various state insurance agencies.
- Provide management decision support and analysis.
10%: General Accounting and Analysis
- Oversee general accounting activities and monitoring of personnel, operating, and overhead expenses. Direct staff and provide guidance on higher-level issues involving Accounts Payable, Payroll, Legal, and various other departments.
- Coordinate with Parent company allocation of corporate overhead expenses. Monitor monthly activity to ensure appropriateness of direct vs. allocated charges.
10%: Organizational Management and Development
- Provide guidance, coaching, and feedback to staff on performance and developmental issues.
- Regularly review organizational structure to maximize productivity and improve processes.
- Set high-level priorities of each work group.
The candidate who fills this position will have the option to work a 9/80 alternative schedule which means working 80 hours over nine calendar days, with the tenth day off. The day off will be alternating Fridays.

Qualifications:
Type and Amount of Experience:
- 5-7 years of experience in accounting, auditing, and/or finance with increasing levels of responsibility.
- Prior managerial/supervisory experience required.
Education:
- BA/BS in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- CPA or MBA strongly preferred.
Software Expertise:
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint
- Involvement with general ledger and financial database development/implementation.
