Responsible for providing comprehensive legal advice to senior management and all Group functions, the team advises on and takes an active involvement in all business and operational strategies and initiatives, from legislative and regulatory matters to the setting of policies, standards and procedures for guarding against and reporting on legal risk and reputational management issues.
We are now inviting qualified individuals to join this team in the role of Assistant Legal Counsel.
Your main responsibilities will include:
- Providing commercially sensitive, pragmatic and practical legal support and advice in a cost-effective manner to RBWM, as well as assigned Global Businesses and Functions;
- Ensuring the Senior Legal Counsel is fully briefed on major issues arising in relevant business area and major legislative changes in area of expertise;
- Building and maintaining positive and effective relationships with panel law firms and other appropriate external parties;
- Maintaining and developing positive and professional working relationships with all team members within Legal and the assigned Global Businesses and Functions;
- Assisting to co-ordinate and manage legal risk so that the interests of the HSBC Group are adequately protected.
Qualifications:
To be successful in this position you will need:
- To be a qualified lawyer with at least three years relevant post qualification experience;
- To be admitted to practice law in NSW (highly desirable);
- Experience in Banking or Commercial law;
- Knowledge of mortgage documentation;
- Experience working with deeds and ancillary documentation, such as Power of Attorney;
- A working knowledge of NCPP and Corporations Act (desirable);
- To be a self starter with the ability to think laterally and work under pressure.
