Assistant Regional Counsel, Consumer Lines recruitment

Chartis Insurance, part of the AIG Grroup, are seeking a suitably qualified Assistant Regional Counsel for the rapidly growing consumer lines business.

Responsibilities include:

A) Product Development and Distribution for Consumer Lines

Product Development
Providing legal advice in the product development process while working closely with Consumer Lines at Regional level to assist in the launch of new products. Identifying legal issues affecting operational and Consumer Lines planning and advising on all legal options available.

Support product implementation and administration, including evaluation of competitor positioning on policy wordings, co-ordination of the sign off process with Home Office and the localisation process throughout APAC local offices. Creation of endorsement library and review/approval of marketing materials to include launch campaigns.

Providing legal analysis and oral and written legal advice to local and regional management on all a wide range of legal, regulatory and operational issues pertaining to new products.

Distribution
Providing Consumer Lines with legal advice on the legal framework pertaining to distribution channels.
Drafting, revising and negotiating of contracts and legal documentation to support general commercial and operating objectives.

Providing legal analysis and oral and written legal advice to local and regional management on all a wide range of legal, regulatory and operational issues arising out of the distribution of insurance products.

B) Operational Matters
Advising Consumer Lines with respect to the legal or regulatory requirements for non admitted and admitted policies required on multinational accounts. Co-ordination of approaches to the Global Client Service Division/Multinational Account Servicing Team at Home Office on queries of legal regulatory requirements for countries outside of APAC.
Implementing and administering internal policies, initiatives and guidelines issued by the corporate and regional legal departments.

Assisting with reporting requirements to regional and head office management and to the corporate legal department.

Overseeing outside attorney activities, selection, review and hiring or terminating of outside counsel.

C) Regional Sanctions Counsel (SEA)
To provide advice to the Regional Compliance Officer, the Regional Sanctions Officer and all employees across the region regarding the following;

(a) the sanctions programmes maintained by OFAC, the UN and other relevant governments, and EU requirements pertaining to Politically Exposed Persons; (b) advise and provide support to the business in respect of any potential exposure under country sanctions programmes including any potential violations; (c) advise and provide support to the business in respect of any requests for exemptions in respect of the operational standards on Screening and operational standards with respect to country sanctions prograrmmes in accordance with the L1 SOS Economic Sanctions Politically Exposed Persons operational document; (d) review and advise on all policy wording exclusions/exceptions with respect to economic sanctions; and (e) provide training to employees within the APAC region.

Experience Required:

5-7 years PQE
General Insurance experience is desirable
Proactive and takes ownership
Able to hold his or her own in project calls with colleagues from NY and within the region
Good attitude
Diligent
