ASSISTANT SCIENTIST Job in Presque Isle 04769, Maine US

The University of Maine, School of Biology and Ecology is seeking a qualified candidate to fill a position of Assistant Scientist (Entomologist) on the Aroostook Research Farm in Presque Isle. Successful applicant will help conduct entomological research in the field and laboratory.

Responsibilities and Duties: Perform field and laboratory experiments, including, but not limited to, insecticide efficiency trials. Collect, analyze, and present scientific data. Prepare and maintain experimental field plots. Maintain an orderly laboratory. Collect and maintain stock cultures of insects. Hire, train, and supervise temporary field and laboratory assistants.

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Biology, Entomology, Plant Pathology, Agronomy, Horticulture, or related field required. (Master's degree is strongly preferred). Demonstrated ability to work with little direct supervision. Demonstrated ability to operate farm equipment, in particular tractors and tractor-mounted implements. Demonstrated experience in technical writing and proven good oral communications skills. Proven computer literacy using Word and Excel. Experience in agricultural research is desired. Ability to receive pesticide applicator certification within six months of hire. Ability to travel, normally requiring a driver's license.
