Primary responsibilities are to assist in monitoring, analyzing, tracking and recommending the best course of action regarding federal legislation or other federal initiatives that may impact University operations. Assist the Assistant Vice Chancellor of Federal Relations in staffing events, meetings, and hearings with various legislative offices, industry groups, and agency offices to represent the University's interest on issue discussion areas and report activities to the Director of Federal Relations. Attend monthly professional association meetings of which the University is a member. Ensure federal lobbying activity deadlines are met. Must possess a strong working knowledge of Pitt research and academic activities in areas such as biomedical science, engineering, energy, health rehabilitation sciences, information technology, etc. and be able to discuss and promote such matters with the Pennsylvania Congressional delegation and potentially other members of Congress and their staffs. Must also have strong working knowledge of Congressional and Federal agency funding mechanisms, and familiarity with the Pennsylvania congressional delegation is a major asset. Requires Bachelor's degree or equivalent, plus at least five years of work-related experience. Frequent travel between Pennsylvania and Washington, D.C. is involved and a valid driver's license is desired. Excellent oral, written, presentation, and organization skills with the ability to work independently is essential. Education Required Other (Specify Below) Qualifications Baccalaureate; Advanced degree desirable. A minimum of five (5) years experience in Federal government relations or related field. Experience with Congress and Federal funding sources and the research university environment is desirable.
