Position summary

We are seeking a technically excellent, part qualified ACCA individual to join our graduate trainee program, based in the London finance team. The Trainee will not hold a single position within the function’s team, but instead rotate on a planned program across the functions of Finance in order to gain practical knowledge and experience as part of the training program.


Duties accountabilities

In addition to the Trainee’s passing of professional exams and gaining their professional qualification, Markit is committed to providing the Finance Graduate Trainee with a broad experience of Finance across the functions that comprise the function. This will facilitate the building of knowledge of finance operations from transaction processing, through commercial support of the business, tax, treasury, statutory accounting, business planning and forecasting.

Key areas of experience that have been identified as part of the rotation program within Markit’s finance function include:

• Understanding sales contracts

• Preparing and maintaining accounting records

• Statutory and regulatory reporting

• IT desktop skills

• Financial Systems support and development

• Policy and procedure development

• Management accounts preparation and variance analysis / interpretation

• Preparing budgets and regular business forecasts

• Preparation of investment analysis / business case preparation

• Management and control of working capital

• Treasury management

• Tax contribution to calculations and also implementation of global tax strategy

A placement may range in length of between three to nine months, with the shorter facilitating a more narrow range of experience and the longer providing a learning opportunity across a range of areas.

Each placement will have learning objectives set and these will be reviewed with the Trainee’s mentor on a regular basis and more formally at the end of the placement.

The study package

• Professional membership fees fully paid.

• Professional exam fees fully paid.

• Taught or distance learning course for agreed papers fully paid for. Note that, subject to management discretion, taught courses will be limited to evening or weekend courses.

• Revision courses for the agreed papers to be sat will be fully paid for.

In addition to the generous financial support offered above Markit will provide two days per paper being sat study leave, plus half a day / one day, depending on the exam timetable, exam leave per paper being sat.

The above study package can, subject to management’s approval, be supplemented by the Trainee’s annual leave entitlement.

The direct remuneration

The basic salary will be subject to review semi-annually, based on work performance and exam success. This will be undertaken within eight weeks of exam results being received and also be subject to a formal performance appraisal being undertaken.

The Finance Graduate Trainee will be eligible to participate in the Company’s annual bonus scheme and share option scheme. The trainee will also benefit from full private medical cover and permanent health insurance, along with life insurance.
