Position Description
Role Summary
The Associate will be responsible for conducting research and evaluating trading opportunities, sourcing and assisting in the implementation of transactions, monitoring (via generation of portfolio, risk and performance analytics) the resultant portfolios of transactions based on specific short horizon alpha strategies as assigned by the Senior Portfolio Manager – SHA Credit Rates. The Short Horizon Alpha group’s focus is on the development and implementation of scalable shorter horizon active management strategies within Public Market Investments. Role-Specific Accountabilities
Reporting to the Senior Portfolio Manager – SHA Credit Rates (Public Market Investments), this position is primarily responsible for researching, investigating and assisting in building and implementing a wide range of trading strategies for the active alpha and risk analytics within SHA. Major areas of responsibilities include:
- Performing fundamental credit research and presenting research ideas to broader group
- Providing market insight and conducting research on the implementation of investment strategies
- Assisting in the development of tools to trade Credit Relative Value (“Credit RV”) strategies based on fundamental and market based research across multiple products
- Using past experience and market knowledge to assist in building models, databases, and frameworks that provide insight into the performance of an investment or strategy
- Part of team responsible for pricing and managing risk associated with various Credit RV strategies (e.g. vanilla credit, capital structure arbitrage, structured credit)
- Identifying and researching new investment opportunities within this asset class
- Assist in the preparation and implementation of investment recommendations
General accountabilities include working as part of the SHA’s Credit Relative Value group to optimize and implement strategies related to alpha generation (e.g. research into short-horizon and event driven value-added trading strategies).
Skills/Knowledge/Competencies/Capabilities
- A minimum of 3+ years relevant work experience managing credit investments
- A Masters degree in Business, Mathematical Finance or Economics
- Proven track record conducting research or providing analysis in the implementation and monitoring of Credit RV strategies (eg. corporate bonds, derivitives)
- Good knowledge of fixed income, credit and finance as well as strong analytical skills
- Relevant trading background seen as a positive
- Well developed interpersonal skills with solid verbal and written communication skills
- Solid prioritization and organizational skills
- Demonstrated good judgment, professionalism and integrity
- Proven ability to work independently as well as perform effectively in a team-oriented environment
- Ability to work and learn quickly in a high performing culture, under pressure and with time-sensitive deadlines
- Self-motivated, flexible and adaptable
