Audit Principal
The NAO is the UK’s main public sector audit body. Independent of government, the NAO has responsibility for auditing the accounts of various public sector bodies, examining the propriety of government spending, assessing risks to financial control and accountability, and reviewing the economy, efficiency and effectiveness of programmes, projects and activities. We are looking to recruit qualified accountants with recent external audit experience as we continue to expand our remit.
Successful candidates will be able to set a clear audit plan and lead an audit team, setting specific objectives and clear deadlines to make sure that the work is delivered on time. Regular review of progress will be critical as is the ability to anticipate issues that could interfere with the delivery of the audit report. You must have excellent communication, both verbal and written, to communicate with clients, colleagues and key stakeholders. You will be comfortable with developing client and business relationships, will have a high level of accountability, will be able to seek and apply knowledge and insight. Crucially, you will be able to deliver high quality work that adds value.
The work you carry out will be of great interest to Parliament and to the public, given that the role involves auditing clients who have a real impact on people’s lives.
