Posted Position Title: Aviation Systems Engineering Intern Career Level: Experienced Function Engineering/Technology Function Segment: Product Design and Development Location: United States U.S. State, China or Canada Provinces: Massachusetts City: Lynn Postal Code: 01910-0002 Relocation Assistance No Role Summary/Purpose: Aviations Systems Engineering Intern utilizes systems design and management methods such as decomposition techniques, process modeling, Design Structure Matrix, design for change, optimization techniques, design of experiments, Quality Function Deployment (QFD) and others to help to understand aircraft engine systems and their system and sub-component behavior. Essential Responsibilities - Manage and decompose system requirements and contract deliverables to meet stringent customer requirements, expectations, and desires within budget and schedule constraints - Contribute to engine system level technical and program activities including involvement with customer interfaces, modules and component integrators, supporting GE technical organizations and external suppliers - Apply system engineering methods to integrate and develop design solutions to balance overall technical product needs - This assignment provides the opportunity to get a holistic view of the complex systems that effect aircraft engines, while developing: - An understanding of aircraft propulsion/power system architecture and systems of systems - Skills in customer relations by participating in technical presentations to customers - An understanding of jet engine sub-systems and how they interact - Organizational and program management skills - Flexibility and adaptability to work on different problems simultaneously Qualifications/Requirements: - Bachelor's Degree of Science in Mechanical, Aerospace, or Electrical Engineering - Minimum of 5 years of experience in Engineering, including component mechanical design, analysis, and validation ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS: - Current participation in the Manager In Training (MIT) SDM degree program Additional Eligibility Qualifications GE will only employ those who are legally authorized to work in the United States for this opening. Desired Characteristics - Experience in engine system design and systems engineering - Strong technical background, including turbomachinery design / analysis, mechanical design, and / or Full Authority Digital Electronic Control (FADEC) control systems knowledge - Experience in aircraft engine / gas turbine fielded operations, practice, and engine/aircraft interfaces - Extensive technical program leadership experience, including significant technical team leadership roles on new product introduction, derivative or existing products - External focus: demonstrated experience building relationships with external customers and stakeholders including program management, flight safety and engine maintainer organizations - Clear thinking: ability to plan ahead, build contingency plans and anticipate possible issues - Strong interpersonal and communication skills - Ability to guide and influence others - Demonstrated process-orientation in approach to work - Ability to make decisions and to drive contributors to meet requirements - Demonstrated performance in continuous product improvement programs and program generation - Experience with hardware quality, procurement, and supply chain practices and capabilities for new part manufacture, part repair and engine / component assembly and test Why join one great company when you can join many?
