Assistant Vice President - Underwriting Claims(Life Insurance)
A role with a leading financial services organization. The AVP is reporting to Head of Service Centre of Excellence
Result Areas:
-Establish market leading underwriting/claims practices and improve procedures and enhance service standards
-Develop appropriate strategy and model to deliver efficient solutions and communication to different distribution channels
-Develop underwriting policies to meet the risk management needs as well as the other business needs
-Lead a team of underwriters and the claims team to meet business objectives
-Manage approval authority, reinsurance arrangement and referrals to Regional Chief Underwriter
-Meet priced mortality and morbidity
-Streamline workflow and enhance systems to ensure efficient running of the underwriting and claims team
-Actively contributing to product development process based on underwriting and claims experience
-Actively engage in the development, implementation and management of New Business initiatives
-Build the framework for the ongoing training and professional development of the Underwriting Teams
-Lead effort in promotion and advancement of New Business initiatives through field visits, meetings and underwriting clinics
-Ensure "positive experience" for customers and channel partners
Experience Qualifications:
-Degree or equivalent business qualification
-Over 15 years of relevant experience in underwriting, preferably in the life insurance industry
-Ability to have underwriting authority of US$10M and experience in High Net Worth (HNW) underwriting
-Ability to define, assess and recommend and be part of implementation of “Smart” underwriting to enable high quality and quick underwriting decisions essential for strong business growth
-Ability to handle Preferred life Underwriting and have experience in establishing business integration with Banks and IFAs using credit scoring premium financing would be a definite asset
Knowledge/Skills:
-Good demonstration of strategic thinking and leadership, particularly in driving cultural and attitude change of team from guideline underwriters to commercially astute pro-active underwriters
-Strong organizational analytical and problem solving skills
-Excellent interpersonal and coordination abilities
-Effective presentation and training skills
-Knowledge of medical, non-medical and financial underwriting principles and practices
-Demonstrated good working relationship with reinsurers
-Excellent communication skill in English and Chinese (written and spoken)
