SUMMARY OF JOB:
Manager Trainee Position that prepares trainee for Assistant Bakery Manager or Bakery Manager position. Provides leadership in Bakery Department by directing and managing all associates activities, including their in store training, orders all products and supplies for the bakery, schedules and disciplines associates, determines production amounts, and implements merchandising initiatives to grow the business while meeting customer requirements and maximizing profits.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:

Supervises all associates in Bakery Department. Specific number depends upon store.

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS:
Technical skills needed in bakery industry, including ability to decorate cakes. Good leadership skills with friendly, outgoing attitude. Strong verbal skills for dealing with customers and associates. Ability to read and understand profit and loss statements and to interpret various reports. Some knowledge of computers.

WORKING CONDITIONS :
Works in production area (which is enclosed) and sales areas of the bakery. May experience some slight discomfort due to heat, noise, etc. Also works in freezer. Will stand for long periods. Frequent interaction with customers and associates daily.

• Lifting and carrying over 60lbs.• Operating equipment (baler, power jack). • Bending, reaching and grasping. • Standing for extended periods and walking. • Some tolerance for stress. • Hearing (Auditory)

RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Manages department inventories by tracking weekly sales reports and orders products and supplies so as to meet customer requirements, improve department sales and the company’s gross profit goals.
• Schedules all bakery associates following allowable hour guidelines set by director of operations, oversees and participates in ongoing training efforts in which department associates are taught specialized skills developed over years, rewards and recognizes associate performance and delegates work assignments so as to most effectively utilize the talents and abilities of associates while maximizing department productivity and profits.
• Develops and implements merchandising plans or follows guidelines or suggestions for merchandising plans provided by others that meet the financial objectives of the department. Keeps abreast of all weekly advertised and in store specials to insure correct pricing and proper production amounts.
• Prepares, maintains and tracks all types of records concerning inventories to calculate gross monthly profits according to company guidelines. Maintains associate department records and reports on all important matters including associate performance and discipline, sales, future plans, etc.
• Inspects and checks product and supplies upon delivery. Enforces and follows department practices regarding receiving, dating and restocking to ensure product rotation. Monitors product quality and freshness. Ensures that out-of-code products are pulled off the shelves and reduced.
• Oversees the baking and general production of the department. Maintains budgeted percentages related to sales, labor controls and shrink control.
• Maintains effective housekeeping program. Ensures compliance with all company policies that relate to the safety of associates and cleanliness and sanitation. Maintains and ensures compliance with local, state and government weights and measures and health department regulations.
• Greets and takes orders from customers while maintaining a positive and friendly attitude. Identifies areas in the Bakery Department where improvement in customer service is required, then makes necessary changes to address these concerns. Instills a positive customer service image with all bakery associates.
• Also performs duties of staff as required, insuring that all positions in bakery are covered on a daily basis.
