Balance Sheet Manager recruitment

Northern Trust is growing their treasury function and recruiting for a Balance Sheet / Cash Liquidity Manager.This newly created position forms part of a newly created EMEA treasury team of initially four people - a Regional Head of Treasury, two Balance Sheet Managers and a Treasury Analyst.  The EMEA treasury team forms part of a global Treasury organisation.

Working within a team environment, the Balance Sheet Manager is responsible for managing the currency risk, short-term interest rate risk and liquidity risk of multiple balance sheets with a banking organization. You will be managing investment portfolios of short term funds within a specific sector and assisting in developing strategies for client needs by analyzing and interpreting investment opportunities.

Major Duties

1. Manages a cash or fixed income portfolio of short term investments within a specific market.
2. Maintains relationships with analysts and brokerage contacts to monitor industry
developments.
3. Works closely with existing and prospective clients to develop portfolio objectives and acceptable risk parameters.
4. Develops and maintains daily information reports to analyze fixed income portfolio compositions to determine investment opportunities.
5. Reviews economic and bond reports, financial periodicals, securities manuals, brokerage reports and other pertinent sources to determine when to purchase, sell, or hold securities.
6. Utilizes industry and company information provided by Credit Risk Management and Research analyst to make investment decisions.
7. Analyzes and interprets data including investment, data, prices, yields, and expected and future trends, utilizing economic and bond reports, financial periodicals, company and financial reports.
8. Develops and implements new strategies and ideas to achieve investment objectives.
9. Remains abreast of securities industry developments to ensure that the most advantageous investments are made.

Knowledge/Experience

Knowledge and substantial experience of short term investment and portfolio management theory, accounting and financial principles, and all associated investment strategies and instruments, acquired through formal education and work experience, to profitably manage portfolios.
Decision making and negotiation skills are required to guide sensitive or difficult situations through to agreement.
