Job Title: Bankruptcy Probate Paralegal
Public Storage an SP 500 company and self-storage industry leader is also one of the nation's largest Real Estate Investment Trusts (REIT). We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Bankruptcy Probate Paralegal to join our team based out of our corporate offices in Glendale, CA.
The successful candidate will assist our Litigation Counsel with bankruptcy and probate documents. This includes negotiating with bankruptcy trustees, maintaining documents on Pacer software, and filing proof of claims. Also, prefer candidates to be familiar with probate rules, laws and procedures.
Responsibilities
- Receives notices of tenant bankruptcy, monitors account for proper handling, obtains trustee release of interest in stored goods and advises on sale of goods thereafter.
- Receives claims of right to storage spaces of deceased tenants, prepares probate declaration documentation and advises appropriate signatories based upon available information. Advises re account handling in the event of no interest among survivors.
- Coordinates and participates in department projects pertaining to field operations. Drafts documents and/or correspondence as appropriate.
- Coordinate with department and outside counsel for advice on, or to defend, various tenant claim issues. Confirms accurate billing, and assures timely payment processing.
- May assist with collection of discovery documentation and/or drafting or proofing of discovery responses.
- Receives subrogation demands, obtains facts and documentation, and responds to insurance companies as appropriate.
- Effectively interfaces with various parties, including senior management, other corporate and field personnel, and vendors.
- Provides additional assistance as requested.
- Fifth year college or university program certificate; or five to eight years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Paralegal certification from an accredited university.
- Excellent communication skills
- Must be detailed oriented and organized
- Must be a self-starter and possess strong multi-tasking skills
- Must be able to adapt and function well within a highly dynamic environment
